What other mood stabilizers are available that work like Depacote that will stop my insatisfiable desire for food. Before depacote, I obsessed over whether I would have enough money to eat. For 3 years now I've obsessed on what to eat next and gained 40 lbs. I've now got the manly spare tire belly, and am afraid diabetes is coming soon.

Any med suggestions from experience here?

Personally, Trileptal didn't cause excessive eating habits, and the same with Lamictal. Those two are weight neutral. Good luck!

I disliked the depakote and asked for lithium this time. (there was 10 years between); so far I like the lithium. Though I have the opposite problem, I tend to restrict food rather than obsess/overeat

I take lithium, abilify, and lamotrogine which my doctor feels is not a problem. It is the seroquel and citalopram which are the culprits in my weight gain. I just can't stop eating.

Geodon works well for me, and I don't get the hungers I got with depakote.

Lamictal doesn't seem to cause increased appetite or weight gain for me.

Lamictal is good for me as well.

No weight gain; no increase in appetite. I don't have any side effects from it either.

Why can't the mental drs. and the gp drs. be on the same page. In February, my orthopedic dr. placed me on gabapentin. It helped, but my feet and ankles swelled like balloons and 3 weeks ago I brought it up to my dr. They told me to stop it. Gaba also works as a mood stabilizer. Anyway, ever since quitting it, my sleep has been more eratic, my feet are still swollen, and my nerve pain is slowly creeping back. I got Lyrica prescribed to replace the gaba, but it costs 3 times as much, so I have not taken it as prescribed because if feet don't shrink, I would prefer the cheaper med.

For the swollen feet, I had a circulation ultrasound which checked out fine. However my mind has been in overdrive from the stress of being at the hospital having it performed. I'm on the verge of a meltdown if I can't come back down soon. God knows don't want to show up at my pdoc appt. Monday morning all whacked out, agitated, pissed off, laughing, and depressed all at the same time.

I'm on trileptal, no weight gain and it really helped to level me out. I see many people are fans of lamictal which I refuse to touch again after it made me severely dysphoric.
