Sometimes there are days on end where I'm extremely irritable, snapping at everyone, annoyed with the smallest irrelevant things, the frustration is literally overwhelming and I feel like I'm about to snap. Other times, usually around these 'lion' phases, I'll feel like I'm high on life, everything is great, I feel like I'm going crazy but I love it. People around me usually get concerned even though I feel great and am happier than ever. Everything's funny, I talk nonstop about random things. Then there are depressive phases where I feel horrible. It's been diagnosed as major depression before, it's gotten bad enough to put me in the hospital for days. My therapist has suggested that I might have bipolar disorder before but we've never seriously discussed it. Currently I don't know what to think, it doesn't fit the classic face of bipolar disorder. Does anyone have any ideas or opinions??? Anything is appreciated, it's getting disruptive

Please talk to a psychiatrist and try and find some answers that way. None of us here are not really qualified to make a diagnosis for you. I wish you well and hope you are able to find the answers to your behavior. Please take care.

I agree you should see a psychiatrist, but...
There are 4 "types" of bipolar disorder: Bipolar 1, Bipolar 2, Bipolar NOS, and cyclothymia. (I hope I spelled that last one right.) The Bipolar NOS label is used for when you appear to have bipolar disorder, but your symptoms do not fall under Bipolar 1, Bipolar 2, or cyclothymia. In other words, you may have upswings that closely resemble hypomania or mania, but you may not fit the full criteria. However, the upswings cause enough disturbance and are so uncharacteristic of you that they're clearly not normal. So, I wouldn't worry too much if you don't "fit the classic face of bipolar disorder". There's an NOS category for a reason. I recommend reviewing the symptoms for bipolar disorder and researching the NOS category. See if this is something that you think describes you, and if you think it does, bring it up with your psychiatrist. Best of luck |

Thank you guys. My psychiatrist is currently undetermined as my last one is no longer in the practice, but I will mention it to my next one. I appreciate the support, it means a lot
