I can't tolerate group DBT because of my bipolar. It makes me manic. I'm considering individual DBT. Have you tried it? What did you think of it? Do you think the fact that it's one-on-one rather than a group would make enough of a difference and allow me to tolerate it?

Between a rock and a hard place here with my borderline and bipolar.

I say if you find a therapist who is willing to do individual DBT, then go for it. Personally, I don't see why it couldn't help. DBT is used for both borderline and bipolar now.

Let us know if you are able to do it.

I am also looking at trying DBT on an individual basis since I'm not doing very well with group therapy. Group triggers my anxiety.

I was not aware that they did individual dbt. I recently completed a weekly group dbt that lasted six months. Yep. I tried to talk 8 miles a minute, making wise cracks, and to be honest, I thought I was probably terrible. I've asked my t how I acted and she said fine, but I don't believe her. Besides, she really cracked when I mentioned in one of our last group sessions that I seriously thought her and all of the clients in our group were all fbi agents. Needless to say, I got through it all, but not without a lot of intense anxiety, stress, paranoia, and fear.
