I am taking 50mg of lamictal and risperdal 1mg. I am having a break out of acne on my face, jawline and neck. Am worried about is this acne or the dreaded rash. I know if i mention to pdoc she will make me stop. I am suppose to go to 100mg on monday, then 150mg after 2 weeks and then 200mg that will be max. I really don't need this.
Anyone have same problem please share. ![]()

No, never had even a pimple on Lamotrigine. However, if I had one, my shrink would be the 1st to know.

The good news for you is, Lamictal can cause regular rashes. If you have a rash, it might not be THE rash (i.e., Steven-Johnson Syndrome). So, you might be safe.
Either way, I would contact someone about this rash. Don't continue to take this medication while you have a rash. Your pdoc may pull you off it or she may try something to handle the rash... but you have to accept whatever her decision is. Trust that she will do the right thing for you. |

I definitely broke out when I started taking it. I still struggle with it two years later

Probably you should hold it and see your family dr as well as letting your pdoc know. Just b/c you have rash doesn't mean they'll stop it forever; there is actually a lot of evidence that you can safely re-start it very slowly after getting The Rash.
I had The Rash. It was raised, hot, and burned like severe sunburn. It did slightly resemble acne. One reason you should get it checked it that the closer to the face the more of an issue The Rash is. It's probably nothing, very few rashes are, but you should be checked. When I got it I had this little patch of itchy bumps on the side of my face. I'd been on lamictal eight or 10 weeks and had been on it before so I didn't think at all before I took another dose. I woke up with rash all over my face and by mid-afternoon my eye was swollen shut, my lips were affected and so was most of my face and neck. If I'd skipped a dose and gone to the dr it might never have gotten so bad.

Have you recently taken antibiotics? I get rashes of acne after a round of antibiotics.

I had TERRIBLE acne the few years I was on lamictal. It went away when I quit taking it.

I'm having problems with acne from lamictal lately too, also mainly on the jawline, neck, and lower half of my face. After googling it a bit back I read that it actually causes acne in those specific spots for a lot of people. I've been on it for about a year and a half, and this problem only started 3 or so months ago. I'm so pissed because about a month ago I tapered down to 200 mg and it mostly went away, but I felt the lamictal wasn't working then. So now I've upped it to 250 mg again, feel it working a bit, and the acne's back.
![]() The good news is that at least it's probably just acne and not "the" rash. Also, since you're just now adjusting, maybe it'll be something that goes away for you? I should also mention that, aside from these problems, lamictal is great. Hope it works out for you! c: |
