So, I was served with a subpoena for wage deduction due to an unpaid balance on a credit card I had years ago. Anyone have any experience with this type of thing? What can I expect? I was just on the phone with the creditors and they pretty much made my blood pressure go through the roof.

I worked in accounting for many years and did a lot of payroll, so I had to deal with taking garnishment out of people's paycheck. Unless it's the IRS or other government agency the creditor you owe must have had sued you and won a judgement against you in court to be able to garnish your wages. Legally you cannot be garnished more than 25% of your net pay each pay period.
Basically the court system will send notification to your employer regarding the garnishment. (I.e., who the creditor is that you owe, how much you owe, how much money to take out of your paycheck and how many pay periods they are to garnish your wages until the debt is paid back) after that it's their job to take out the money and send it to your creditor each month. Keep track of your pay stubs so you can monitor the garnishment yourself. It's always good to have a record of it yourself. __________________ Bipolar I Borderline Personality Disorder ADHD Generalized Anxiety Disorder "You," he said, "are a terribly real thing in a terribly false world, and that, I believe, is why you are in so much pain.” ― Emilie Autumn, The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls |

No words of wisdom here, but you have my sympathies. I've been garnished several times thanks to manic overspending, and it sucks. ((((HUGS))))

Boohoo...it sucks because I'm in the process of getting ready to move (it's a long story) and having just recently gotten my diagnoses after a few months of meeting with the psychiatrist and having some psych testing done in the process, it's adding to my stress level, anxiety, etc.
