Do you like your boss? Does your boss scare you?

My new boss scares the **** out of me. There is nothing wrong with him, but he always sets up impromptu meetings! He's like, "yeah, let's meet in 20 mins. We'll meet for 1 hour." It gives me insane anxiety!

FYI, I work in the software field. My boss doesn't live in this country (he works out of a different office), so our meetings are actually done over Skype. Also, the way my company is set up, my boss just oversees many, many projects and he manages literally 40 people. So, I'm like, "why are you meeting with me all the time?! Don't you have better things to do?! I'm boring! Go meet with someone else!"

Idk. I just started this job in December and this guy has been my boss for like 2 months.

Haha. YEAH my boss scares me. She's ****ing nuts. She has some sort of problem. Seriously. I'm the one with the MI and I'm the only normal person at my job! I work with all abnormal people! My boss rants at me for twenty minutes at a time. Just going on and on AND ON!!! It's really bad when you're manic and pissed off and agitated because it's hard not to say something to her you'll regret.

In fact, while pissed, I HAVE said things to her I regret. Because now she's out to get me.

You'll be okay at your meeting. Promise. It'll be awesome! Maybe he has some good news. Good news is always good. I like good news. Who doesn't.

Hugs, blue!

The last 15 years of my working life I had several bosses and I did not like
any of them, none of them knew their job or mine but they all had me doing
things that were ridiculous and many times I was doing their job as well as
mine.

He yelled at me for something that wasn't my fault! He was like, "it's all your fault that these other people's meeting was messed up." Then I was like, "what meeting?" He was like, "You have to fix this. Go to that meeting next time." (It's a bi-weekly meeting and I wasn't even invited! I never get invited!)

Here's the real kicker... I actually went up to my coworkers and was like, "I'm sorry for screwing up your meeting." Then they were like, "how did you screw up our meeting? You're not supposed to go. The guy who runs the meeting is away on a trip, so the backup person screwed it up."

Well, apparently the backup dude told my boss that it was all my fault! I also tried to help him prepare for the meeting beforehand even though I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing! He was like, "help me." I was like, "sure, but idk what I'm doing." Then he blames his f*** ups on me!

Oh no! What the ****. Not fair.

You should kick that back up guy's ***.

I'll do it for you if you don't want to. I'm agitated as ****.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. That's the last time I help this guy out...

So much for trying to be a nice person! Sometimes I'm too nice.

Jeez. That's awful. My sister works in retail and says her bosses do the same thing!

Sometimes they tell her to stop what she's doing and help them do THEIR job. Then when she clocks out for the night, her bosses are like, "why didn't you do your job?"

Did they ever do that to you?

I'm pretty fortunate to have the boss I have. He has his quirks that annoy the hell out of me, but he's a good boss for the most part. He's mostly laid back and pretty patient. He's not a yeller or anything.

I'm sorry you got yelled at for something that wasn't fault and that he scares you. I hope that maybe you'll get a new and better boss soon!

Apparently my mom is really annoyed by all of her bosses. She apparently had like three bosses. Well, three people who are at a higher position in the work place and she takes frequent orders from all of them.

She comes home every day absolutely exhausted. I've been trying to keep the house all nice and tidy for her to come home to. I've been making her coffee and breakfast, too, because she's really stressed out a lot of the time.

Bosses must be the worst. Especially from what I'm reading from all of you.

Both my immediate supervisor and the boss are nice people, not all bosses are assholes.

My big boss gave me serious anxiety in the past. I didn't see him often but when he'd come to our office building to say hello, everyone would act all excited and I'd be searching for the closest hole to bury myself in. And if he talked to me directly my voice would shake and if blush. He probably thought I had a thing for him, but really I wanted to curl up inside myself and hide like a popple (popple a were little fury toys that curled into themselves in the 80's)

Funny you should ask this because I just today had a 'check in' meeting with my boss, who admonished me for being out for 2 weeks (I'm a freelance interpreter and don't have to follow the same rules as staff but I get that it sucked for them not to have the help).

I was sick for the first week, and then the second week my pdoc put me back on Seroquel and told me not to work for the rest of the week as I titrate it up so that I could get used to the side effects. I had told my boss that I took a 'medication' that made me very sleepy and my doc... etc. She asked me again about it today saying she didn't want to pry... None of her business why and what med I take! I just repeated what I had said before and said I don't expect it to happen again. I certainly hope it doesn't because I've taken a lot of time off already. I was also very depressed at the time, which made it easy for me to miss work that week, also no one's business...

I do not under any circumstances want to reveal any MI to my boss, but it really sucks, at the same time, to dance around it...

That's really great that you do that for your mom!

My middle managers are straight out bullies who thankfully seem to leave me alone. My senior boss has been very understanding with the months I have needed off work, saying I do an amazing job when there so he is willing to tolerate it. He knows it is MI but doesn't pry. I doubt I would still have a job if he wasn't there.
