I feel like I've been experiencing, from what I've read about and researched since my diagnosis a few weeks ago, what seems to be a hypomanic phase. However, now I feel like that phase is starting to fade. What should I do??? Sorry if this isn't making sense. *le sigh*

How long has this phase been going on?

I'm just starting to crash from my episode induced by Adderall. You'll probably crash too if it's a true hypomanic episode.

I definitely think you should inform your pdoc and/or therapist. My pdoc helped me handle my episode, as I got a grand total of 3.5 hours of sleep in a span of 72 hours. I was paranoid that I was going to collapse from exhaustion.

It could be hypomania, but that usually lasts a few days. How long have you been experiencing this?

It's been going on for about a week now. I've found myself sleeping a heck of alot less than I typically would, but yet waking up as if I had gotten a full nights rest. My productivity at work has gone way up from what it was just a few weeks ago. I've also been a bit more irritable. Ugh. None of this is making sense, and of course my pdoc is on vacay this week.

Did it start when you started the Adderall?

I've been taking Adderall for a few months. Originally my pdoc thought it was more ADHD, but after some testing with a psychologist it was determined to be Bipolar 2 Disorder w/ ADHD and MDD. Like many others here, I'm a mess.

Ah, okay. So Adderall is probably fine for you then. I can't tolerate it, so I was wondering if it triggered hypo/mania in you too.

Are you at least getting some sleep? If it's less than 4 hours a night, then I'd say you need to use your pdoc's emergency contact number if you have it.

But my pdoc recommended for me to take Ativan to make me sleep. I see you have Xanax. You could take 1mg and see what that does, since your signature says you take 0.5 or 1 mg at night.

The Xanax should calm down the hyperactivity if you have it

Recently I've been sleeping maybe 4 hours a night. I typically take the Xanax during the week when I know I have to be up early and/or at least on time to get to work. I don't take it as much on the weekends unless I absolutely need to for whatever reason. Oh, and I do typically take 2 at a time at night which calms me down enough to at least get some sleep.

Yeah. I would take some Xanax to calm yourself down to sleep. It's the energy that's keeping you awake. You'll probably sleep more than 4 hours tonight if you take the Xanax.

I had to take a s***load of Ativan to knock me out and relax me, though. Fair warning..

See, the Xanax isn't helping as much, that's why I'm confused I think. I feel like I'm back in kindergarten having to relearn things and how to live my life as 'normal' as possible.

Does Xanax work for you in general? Have you built up a tolerance to it from using it often?

I would definitely talk to your pdoc about this. See if he can give you something PRN for sleep next time.

There's also over the counter stuff like melatonin, but I've never tried it, so I can't say how well it works or doesn't work. But you can look into over the counter meds if you're desperate.

It does seem to at least calm my nerves. I might ask him about Ambien. I've tried many OTC sleep aids and none seem to really work. I'm just so frustrated right now and angry that this is happening to me.
