How long does it take for Abilify side effects to kick in? How did it affect your BP?

I started Abilify this morning (5 mg) and it did nothing to my appetite. I thought Abilify was supposed to increase your appetite? I was actually looking forward to an increase in my appetite since Lamictal seems to have killed whatever appetite I had left.

I've literally eaten nothing in over 24 hours because I just don't feel hungry. Normally when I'm depressed (like I am now) I load up on junk food -- oftentimes candy and other sweets -- but that was prior to starting Lamictal.

The Skeezyks was put on Abilify a few years back. It made everything I ate taste metallic. The only things I had any taste for at all were sweets... which isn't a bad thing... but still... I stopped taking it before it really had much of a chance to really do much of anything for me...

I've actually had no side effects with Abilify (I think I'm taking 15 mg) and I've found it helpful in maintaining my stability. But I hope it increases your appetite, if that's what you want!

It seems to manage my symptoms fairly well. I'm taking 30mg and it makes me sleepy. I don't know that it's causing anything else.

all the best,

I've been on Abilify for a little over a month (20mg) and I have noticed a little weight gain, cause I've been grazing a lot due to nagging hunger, but hears thd weird part for me, I can't eat too much in one sitting like.a.regular.meal, or I'll start to feel sick to my stomach, happened to me during dinner tonight, it was just a burger, onion rings and part of a.banana split, I'm actually still full. Idk.weird.side effect. But idk when the hunger side effects kicked in I think it was a.couple.of days after I switched to 20mg.

Abilify takes a couple of weeks at least for it to build up to therapeutic levels, but I suppose the pills could have some kind of side effects before then. I usually had nausea, but the sweet craving kicked in after a week or so.

Then I went on something else.

I had a bad experience. It caused psychosis, and thoughts of self harm in me.

I've been on Abilify a little over a month now, and my appetite is still small. But my anxiety is MUCH better than it was!

I was put on and taken off of abilify in a very short period of time because of the side effects. For me they started right away. It was the dizziness and almost passing out that were the worst of it. I never knew when it was going to hit me. I didn't notice any appetite changes in that short period of time though.

I used to be on Abilify, and I did not experience any changes in appetite. It was sort of "neutral." Lamictal also reduced my appetite....but luckily, this improved with time. I think it took 6 months before I had a normal appetite. I still do weigh less though than I've been in a long time, and I was never near overweight to begin with....so I was concerned at first, but I'm still in the healthy range. Plus, I think previous meds were making me overeat before the Lamictal, hence, the weight change. How long have you been on Lamictal? You might notice better tolerance with time, if you haven't been on it long.

Uhh... I don't remember how long I've been on Lamictal. I think since January or February?

My weight tends to fluctuate, but I'm underweight, partially because of the lack of appetite and partially because of my IBS-D. With IBS-D, things tend to go right through me and then I don't feel like eating. (Seriously, I think it's weird to eat food right after you took a s***.) So yes, I would like to have an increase in appetite.

Yeah, that's interesting you can't eat too much in one sitting.

It sounds like my dose might be too low for the hunger side effects to kick in
