I've been depressed and low energy, even {worse}, over the past week. As sometimes happens after ECT, I forget to take my meds. This week has been the longest yet. Anyhow, I've got more than the pharmacy thinks I do at this point, so I won't run out before I can refill.
My question is this: Feeling as bad as I do, could I double up on my Wellbutrin for a day or two in order to give myself a boost? I'm taking 300mg tablets.

600 is too much I believe and would decrease your seizure threshold which isn't good. Most doctors prefer to stay at 300, sometimes increasing to 450 is certain cases. I would definately ask your doctor about this. I had seizures induced from meds and it's no joke. Be safe. Let us know what you decide.

That's ironic, considering the whole point of ECT is to induce seizure.
...I wonder if I cut a 300 in half...

I would really call a doctor to be sure. Chances are, you'd be fine. My husband used to run a unit for the criminally insane at our State Hospital. The patients would be found abusing welbutrin frequently. Some would even shoot up, they found it in needles. So apparently the little boost of energy we get from it can be intense enough for an addict to enjoy. Not saying you're an addict, just that it might work for the purposes you intend.

Yikes! No. Wellbutrin should not be cut. (Do not crush, divide or chew. Regardless of dosage.) If you are taking a 300, that is an XL, right? All the more reason not to. Stay safe, vertigo.
![]() (450mg is max dose anyway, and would require 3 150mg tabs. Because... no dividing. It can't be done safely, so please don't, ok? Would hate to see you feel worse or have anything bad happen to you. ![]() |

OK, it sounds like double-dosing isn't the thing to do. Thanks all who weighed in on this.

I would talk to the doctor first, personally. All I know is that when I went up on Wellbutrin, I noticed a negative difference in terms of being really restless and agitated. Definitely an increase in side effects, so I think it is better to be safe than sorry. |

Yeah, my pdoc emailed to say it would be a very bad idea to take two tablets. It looks like I just need to make sure I stick to my meds and wait for efficacy to return.

Maybe your pdoc can raise you to 450 mg. I currently take 300 mg, but he prescribed me 450 mg in the past.

She doesn't want me above 300 for some reason. I was only considering taking extra as a temporary kick to get me back to baseline, anyway.
My best friend from school died of an OD and that's not the way I want to go, so I'll stick to using it the way they want me to do.

300 mg is the max. I just went on it myself Friday. Hang in there. Wellbutrin is pretty good about working fast.
