I was surprsed when someone mentioned how short the time they'd been doing this was so I thought it would be good to just ask and know where people are on this journey.

I've been diagnosed 14 years almost to the day.

How old were you at diagnosis?

Diagnosis was confirmed this year, but was received in 2012 after a neuro-psych assessment.

First with depression 24 years ago than with bipolar I 15 years ago. However I think I should have been diagnosed with schizophrenia 45 years ago. I'm 55 now.

In hindsight, I had a pdoc tell me I had bipolar when I was about 20. But I thought she was crazy and didn't take whatever she prescribed me. Maybe because I was hypo from the ADs my GP had prescribed. Now when I actually knew what it was after crazy up and down episodes and hospitalizations, I took it seriously and stabilized at 26. I'm now 33.

Age 62. 4 yrs ago. It was funny.
I asked the doctor why this late in life. He asked if I've seen a shink before.
No, I never did. And no, I don't have bipolar.. Depressions here and there. Justified.
And living life against the grain. That's what makes me different and gives me greatness.

I was 24... Dx'ed bipolar August 2015, but I was Dx'ed depression 2013.

2013 was when I first sought help, and I thought the depression Dx was both stupid and wrong... so i pretty much ran away until i had a horrible mixed episode and came crawling back

I'm 25 now

53. I had been struggling with depression since I was a child, but having dysphoric episodes delayed proper dx. The new dx made a difference I can't believe.

So much better.

About 6-7 years. Around age 35. I was diagnosed with several other things on my 20 years journey down the psychiatrist rabbit hole.

12 years ago, I think. I would've been 34. I'd been fighting a bout of depression when new meds tipped me into mania. Even with that evidence, I didn't believe the diagnosis. Sometimes I still doubt it. Am I alone in that?

Was diagnosed w/ SAD as a teenager a million years ago, thought I was better, so stopped therapy and meds after about 2 years. Most recent diagnoses of BP2 and MDD just within the last 2 months and I'm scared of what will become of my life. Oh, and I'm 42 years old.

Diagnosed bipolar in 2003, but I started being treated for anxiety in 2000. So I've been being treated for bipolar for 13 years now, been being treated for MI for 16 years.

Dx with BP II in 2000 at the age of 44. I'm 60 now. I often feel like I'm living this other life that no one knows about. The people who know don't really know how to deal with it. So I suffer alone most of the time.
