So.., I just found out why my grandfather died.

Every time he drank, he ended up in the hospital. Every. Single. Time. Alcohol severely conflicted with his autoimmune disease and his chronic anemia, as well as the medication he was taking. He knew better than that. He had been in the hospital several times for this.

My dad repeatedly told him to cut it out. He said no more moonshine and red wine... but he ignored my dad..

He did himself in this time.

I know he didn't mean to kill himself, but I guess it's just frustrating. It was something completely avoidable.

Sometimes I ignore my doctors and my medication warnings, but this made me realize I should take things more seriously. I haven't drank in 3 years, but this puts me off alcohol.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Was your grandpa an alcoholic? such a horrible disease which takes so many lives. I've had my own battles with the bottle and it almost took my life. Sending you hugs Blue. (((Hugs)))

Yeah, an awful alcoholic. He drank like a fish. He knew he wasn't supposed to.

He literally had gallons of moonshine in his bedroom.

We threw away his alcohol before, but he just got more. He couldn't drive, so he asked his friends and cousins to bring him some. They basically encouraged the behavior. Enablers.

Food for thought. I was more concern about tobacco. The #1 self inflicted killer in the US.
I'm sorry for you about your grandpa.

Yeah

I'm not depressed, but I'm mostly disappointed and a little upset. We tried to help him, but I guess you can't help someone who doesn't want help.

I just wish he took care of himself and listened to us when we said he needed to stop the alcohol habit. A little alcohol is fine, but he guzzled that stuff.

I have no regrets; I'm just disappointed about the decision he made. He was 79 and would have turned 80 next month.

It must be so frustrating to see a loved one do that to themselves. Heart breaking too. I'm sending you much love and many hugs. I'm glad you have been able to stay away from alcohol. Stay strong Blue.

Alcoholism is a hell of a disease. I have it too, and even though I've been sober for over 24 years, I still crave booze from time to time. No one could make me stop either---I had to do it all on my own. I'm so sorry your grandfather didn't take his own illness seriously. My thoughts are with you, Blue. ((((HUGS))))
