How many of you are the main wage-earner in your family?
If you are, how do you cope with the stress of it? __________________ What's so funny about peace, love and understanding? Elvis Costello |

I was the main breadwinner through the majority of the last 20 years. It was quite stressful when my late husband retired in 2010, but I was OK with it because he'd cleaned more toilets than he should ever have had to and I wanted him to relax. Unfortunately, my illness eventually made it impossible for me to work at all, and we wound up losing almost everything. Except each other.

How do I cope? I compartmentalize and stuff all my feelings way deep down. I also sleep about 12-16 hours a day and have no quality of life whatsoever when I'm not working. BUT what's the alternative? bills have to get paid and hubby is disabled on SSI which doesn't pay squat.

I'm a single mom, so I'm the primary bread winner by default.
It is quite stressful- I talk to my friends as often as I can, try to get exercise, and enjoy my time with my daughter & try not to keep things bottled up. I definitely live paycheck to paycheck. When I get my car and some credit cards paid off, things will be easier. __________________ Bipolar Type I | 40 mg of Latuda, 0.5 mg of Xanax | Diagnosed August 27 2013 |

Since my husband and I split I have to pay my own stuff and it's so stressful. I don't make very much so it's really hard.

I am a single mom, so I make all the income. Pretty much I cope by going to work and working hard and staying focused on the job. There's no room to think about how I feel during the work day. Then when I come home I try very hard not to think about work.

He's has schizophrenia and degenerative disc disease so I don't get jealous of him because I know how much pain he's in. I do feel like I miss out on life a lot and quality time with him because I work. I try not to but every once and a while I do get resentful because if I didn't have to take care of him and his bills I could get by working 3 days a week. Then I feel bad because I know it upsets him just as much because he feels he should be taking care of me but can't. It's just a bad situation all around.
