I don't know anyone with any form of bipolar (that I know of). I would love to meet someone (in person) who can relate to this aspect of my life, but how?? I've been to some groups/meet-ups but they are always held at hospitals and feel more like AA meetings...I don't mean this with any disrespect, but I want to meet others who are 'high-functioning' and have similar interests/lifestyle, etc. (otherwise it sort of defeats the purpose of the whole relating to each other bit). Am I searching for a "unicorn"?

(edit: by 'high-functioning' I don't mean people who aren't struggling or don't have periods of being 'non-functional,' but rather are generally able to get by)

I'm not sure. I was going to say your best bet would be going to meetings. If we lived close, I'd be your friend!

I've just kind of stumbled upon them over the years. We have several church members who deal with bipolar disorder and depression. They are a great source of support.

You want a person that isn't mentally ill, someone working a decent job, normal life. Is that what you mean? Romantic partner or just a friend?

I would say a church or some kind of affiliate. If you're not religious join a group or a class of some sort with high functioning adults, then you might come across someone. Its hard to find a "high functioning" bipolar friend because somewhere during your friendship they will have an "episode" I know because it happened to me with my bipolar friend and I didn't handle it well.

Yes, that's what I mean. Someone like me, I guess. I'm married so just friends. The only bipolar people I've met (in groups) are either homeless, not working/studying, or much older than me.
