I don't know if anyone else has this problem...

Sometimes I'm too uncomfortable to try new things by myself, so then I end up doing nothing. For example, I would love to learn how to sail on the ocean, but I don't have anyone to go with me, so I wouldn't feel comfortable going by myself. I know I could meet other people who are taking sailing lessons with me, but that's not the point. The point is that I don't have anyone to go with me, which is why I have no motivation to go. There IS a difference between going by yourself and trying to make friends vs. bringing a friend along with you.

Also, I like snowboarding a lot, but I don't even do much of it anymore. Don't really have anyone to go with, so it kinda takes the fun out of everything. There are no moments to share with a friend. Know what I mean?

Currently the only activity I do by myself is biking because I'm an avid biker and I like to keep very fit. Sometimes I do kayaking, but I don't own a kayak, so that's a bit rare.

I don't have friends anymore except for online friends, which I know is kinda lame, but I think a lot of people here are in the same boat. It's kinda hard to maintain friendships when you're rapid cycling.

Lots of people have this problem. Currently I have zero motivation to do anything so I can't really relate. Plus, my husband would be willing to do anything I want with me.....I'm just too physically sick to do anything.

As soon as I'm feeling better I want to learn the cello....even if nobody comes along.

I hope you find a way to get out alone, learn new things and make new friends. Good luck.

Have you tried joining a meetup.com group?
You meet new friends based on activities you want to try!

I can be really reluctant to get going by my lonesome, so I get where you are coming from. I'm not sure I would make it to a meetup sesh without bringing a curious companion. Defeats the dang purpose for me personally, but I know a lot of friendly folks that find freedom in exploration via that simple site.

I too get like that. There are days when I'm alone (which is most days) and think 'hey, maybe I'll go to a movie', only to sit on couch and watch tv...or sleep.

It used to be cause no one I knew wanted to do the things I wanted to do. Now it's cause I lack motivation

This is a huge issue for me. I have all these desires, but because of social anxiety I always want to have a friend along to do it with and since I don't have friends I don't do them. I really just generally don't like doing certain things alone.
