What are some stupid things people say about BP?

I was driving home with my dad about 10 minutes ago, and there was this lady in front of us whose speed was very erratic. She'd go anywhere between 30 and 50mph in a 50-mph zone. Then my dad said, "Wow, she's SO bipolar! Bipolar people are actually psychotic, you know. You don't want to be around them. Seriously, they should be locked up for their own good!"

I hear bipolar used as an explanation for someone being nice one minute and a b**** the next, constantly, by multiple people. It's certainly annoying. People are ignorant.

a friend of mine works in a group home for mentally challenged adult men and was describing one of the clients' behavior...he is nonverbal and does some odd things...so my friend is telling me his diagnosis is bipolar and ocd...I had to ask what else does this guy have because people with bipolar and ocd don't do things like pull out their arm pit hair and put it on the dashboard of the car and grin at you...oh yeah, he has nonverbal autism. boy what a relief! I was afraid that was something I might start doing!! (not)

Blue, I am so sorry your dad said that. Must feel like crap to hear him spouting off like that? Must hurt you?

I hear "bipolar" used as a negative term thrown around as a reason for all kinds of behaviors. It's due to ignorance.

I often hear people living with bipolar are "dangerous" to other ppl.
Huh? Dramatic stuff. Silly, yet harmful ignorance.

I'd hoped we be further along with general public education in 2016.

When our friends/family start spouting ignorant statements about bipolar behaviors, it hurts.

Hugs to you, Blue.

My mother-in-law told me I have bipolar because of the books I read, which are largely fiction and non-Christian.

Yeah, it took me so much by surprise that I didn't have enough wits about me to point out that millions of people read the same sorts of stuff I read and have no problems.
