Whilst I go for botox injections and look for a sperm donor

Anyone else had a midlife crisis or is it just me?

Yeah, I had what you could call a mid-life crisis; during my last depression (bad enough to be transformative) , with the help of a perceptive and compassionate T, I finally began to really accept that I had been in and could expect to continue to be in the grip of a disabling mental illness, that I couldn't continue to live like an Energizer Bunny whose head exploded occasionally, only to get up and keep going as if nothing happened. I took stock of what I had accomplished, what I had lost, how I had failed, and how I had to change my strategy and expectations to survive. I compared myself to colleagues in high school and college with similar potential and opportunities who had built highly-responsible careers and families while I had been repeatedly falling on my face. It wasn't fun, but it was necessary; if I had kept lying to myself about my circumstances and capabilities, the losses and disappointments would only continue. I know this doesn't fit the profile of a conventional midlife crisis, but it met the literal definition.

Thanks Lefty,

The part where you said:

I compared myself to colleagues in high school and college with similar potential and opportunities who had built highly-responsible careers and families while I had been repeatedly falling on my face.

.... Feels like me daily ...

I have done it twice. Once at 40 and once at 50. ( I admit 40 was closer to the actual middle of my life unless i live to 100!)

I got sports cars both times. Why should men get all the fun with their convertibles? lol

Do whatever makes you happy. Botox is ok. Just don't do too much. I am sure you are lovely just as you are.
Thanks for this!

A hahha this made me lol. But yea, I'm almost 30, childless, unmarried while my dad mumbles "I want grandkids..." I can feel my ovaries shriveling as I type this. And don't get me started on the anger lines between my eyes! Yup, pass that Botox baby!

We have discussed this before, my friend, but you and I have lived the same life, cosmically connected.......probably comically connected as well.

I went through it at 42 and am glad to say I lived over it. Good luck to you on your journey.

I'm in the middle of mine. I'm 49. Finished the menopause (YAY) and yesterday I bought a monster motorbike I can barely get on. It's a Suzuki GSXR 750. I've wanted one since I passed my test nearly 25 years ago. Yes, I am having lessons! But in all seriousness, my mid life crisis probably started with a breakdown about 18 months ago, which led me to this site, and I'm gradually making my way out and up, with the help of friends on here, my meds, therapy and my new bike (even f it scares me a little!). What I'm trying to say is that it's not all bad, and has its good times too. Like I did the comparison thing and ended up resolving a lot of old baggage and history. Like the tide at sea, it goes in, it comes out....

I went through mine relatively early in life (37). I was in nursing school and my world was expanding, while my husband's was the same as it had always been. I got bored and restless, wondering if I should try to find a new and more exciting love before it was too late. We almost split up; thank God we were too poor to maintain separate households, so we had no choice but to stay and fight it out.

A little later on in life, I looked back on this phase and realized how foolish I'd been to blame my mate for my midlife growing pains. But by that time we'd fallen back in love, so no harm done.

I'm 44 and am yet to get anything more than occasional hot flashes. My friend is the same age and 20 weeks pregnant- no fertility drugs!
