I have a 15 year old son who was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and adhd. He wants to play on the computer for HOURS and he gets really upset (physically and verbally aggressive) when I ask him to get off. I'm a single parent and he's starting to overpower me. Any suggestions?

I wish I had some good advice to give, but I'm afraid I have nothing. :/ I am sorry to hear you're going through this though, it sounds rough. If you feel like he is a danger to himself or others though (including physically harming you), I -believe- you can put him into the hospital against his will. It would likely be met with friction but perhaps it's what he needs.

May I ask how many hours a day he spends on his computer? I have struggled with being addicted to computer games in the past...my first time being at the age of 15 as well.

Welcome to PC! I hope you enjoy your time here.

Hi AnnaCz,

Welcome!

Your son's behaviors may have nothing to do with his bipolar diagnosis.
Other factors may be in play. It's also possible his diagnosis plays a role. It's impossible to tell from such a distance. Professional input might be most helpful at this time.

Do you speak with his therapist or pdoc?
Sounds like a family meeting -- sharing of info -- may be very helpful.

Please let his therapist/pdoc know you feel he's aggressive.

Stay safe.
