There's a quote that says 'Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.' Do any of you take comfort in art? Either creating it yourself or looking at other people's work? I can get lost in a painting for hours. I tend to find the most comfort in disturbing art. Does that say something about me? Swiss surrealist HR Giger is one of my all time favorite artists. My mother once told me she though I there must be something wrong with me for finding comfort in images that so completely disturbed her.

I also enjoy the work of Zdzislaw Beksinski, Jaroslaw Jasnikowski and other surrealists such as Salvador Dali and Man Ray.

Do any of you take comfort in art of any forms? I love to draw, sculpt and sew but I also love immmersing myself in other people's work and appreciating what they have created.

I find I like drawing, photography and sewing. I find them soothing. In other people's work I like peaceful scenes. Landscapes of lakes, trees and waterfalls.

I find a lot of comfort in art. I think chaotic art can somehow calm the chaotic mind that comes with bipolar.

I used to draw and I was pretty good at it but I stopped several years ago and just haven't tried to really draw anything again. Its ok though because I was never really satisfied with any of it so it was a little frustrating for me. I always wound up tossing it out. I don't think I have one picture left that I drew. I do like other peoples work though.

I get a lot out of the creative process, and when I'm hypomanic I constantly make new songs in my head that I forget to record before they're gone :P Some of them I do record though and they turn out pretty good. I also love art and photography and can get really excited about creating and coming up with something new. I can recommend Ello.co as a creative output for you artsy people! It's a great community!

Yes! I love art. I have been an artist since I could write my name and hold a pencil/pen/brush. As I aged, I found a love of photography.

I do art for fun and entering contests and I do photography professionally on the side.

I think i would wither and die if i didn't have the ability to photograph and print using historic processes. I got my degree, and i use it to an extent in my job, but I really just love shooting landscapes, sports, people, abstract, and almost anything else.

Just sought out some of the artists mentioned, HR Giger, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Jaroslaw Jasnikowski, and was lost in art for a few hours! It's meditative. Really enjoyed Jaroslaw Jasnikowski, so thanks!

I take comfort in art, my favorite is photography, it is a window into how I see.the world, I'm.legally blind so you'd think photography would be difficult for me, but it's not too difficult. I mostly take pictures of my cat or random things I see that I like. Nature, rainy Fall days, the sky after a storm at sunset, my cat, myself etc.

I'm glad you enjoyed their work! Some people find that kind of surrealist art to be a little nightmarish for their taste, but I find comfort in it. I think their work (particularly Giger and Jasnikowski) to be quite beautiful.

Art is my One Thing. It's the best!! Process and result. My first memory is of going into a closet and coming out with paints. (Turns out they were my Dad's oil paints, lol.)

I appreciate art.....I definately like stuff with a creepy side to it. Not all art appeals to me but I still can appreciate the efforts and talents of the artists. I like big eye and low brow, amongst other weird things.
