So after a week of being mixed with insomnia, my pdoc increased my seroquel and gave me restoril, a sedative/hypnotic/benzo. She warned me that it was a class X drug which I've never heard of before. This means if I were to get pregnant on it then there would more than likely be harm to the baby. This kind of worries me however I am on the pill. I don't think I'd take this if I wasn't on birth control to be honest. I do want kids someday. But I want sleep now lol. Would you guys (well, ladies) take this?

Anyone else take this now or in the past? What were the results? Did it help your symptoms? I want to learn more about this med from personal point of view.

I would totally take it if I needed it, but I've had a hysterectomy, so no more kids for me. But were I still able to take it I would. I've known a couple other people (women) who've taken it and did well on it with no problems.

I've been on restoril for almost a year. My understanding is that it was a class 4 drug, but I can't remember. Because of this, authorization is needed for each refill or the paper prescription to start the drug, it can't be called in to the pharmacy. But no, you cannot be on the drug while pregnant or intend on being pregnant. But it has worked wonders for my sleep! I recently had to go from 15mg to 30mg because debilitating anxiety messed up my sleep recently. Still love it though. And I'm sure you may know already that it is a benzo, so take that into consideration.

Edit: Oh and no intention of having kids, so I never took that into consideration.

I took it years ago, didn't help me at all. But I had a hysterectomy so no worries for me.

It's worth a shot as long as your vigilant about taking your BC as directed.

Hope it helps , you deserve a break ❤️

Restoring never worked for me but it could for you. But to answer your question I have and would again take this class of drug unless I planning definitely to get pregnant. Ask the pharmacist how long it takes to get out of your system. I remember I was nervous because I got pregnant quicker than expected, and was worried the psych meds I quit weren't out of my system. My midwife told me that since it had been a month I was fine.

I used to take Restoril. I took 60 mg at bedtime with my other meds including Xanax 3 mg. (both benzodiazepines)

I began waking in the middle of the night with weakness/loss of coordination in my legs making it impossible to walk. I also had expressive aphasia. I could understand language but could not talk. I could only moan. (My son was the only person who witnessed this and he later said he had not called 911 because he thought I would be embarrassed since I could only moan).

By morning the side effects were resolved. My pdoc finally did a neuro workup which was normal and later took me off the 60 mg. I have not had any more episodes.

I now take Restoril 15 mg once in a while and have not had similar side effects.

If I were even contemplating pregnancy, I would not start on Restoril or any benzo-type medication. It's hard to quit anyway, and often times a woman doesn't know she's pregnant until she's a couple of months along. That's when the majority of the damage can happen, when the baby's brain cells and body structures are forming.

But then that's just me, and I'm "fixed", postmenopausal and way too old to become pregnant.

My only child's infancy was hell. We're planning to have only him. I have an IUD and birth control. With no worries of pregnancy, I'd definitely take it if it helped.

If you want to become pregnant I wouldn't start on it. Benzos are really hard to get off of.
