If you are or ever where on seroquel, how many mgs were you on? Im wondering if my dose, 450mg is a lot. I ask because I think I may have to go higher...again. But I don't want to be on an insane amount and I'm terrified of the weight gain as I also have an ED.

I've been on anything between 25 and 900 mg. Interestingly enough, the increased dosages had less side effects in terms of drowsiness and weight gain.

Don't worry, climbing above your 450 mg dose will be fine.

I agree. The higher the dosage I was on the less drowsy I was and less weight gain.

The max dose from the FDA is 1200 mg. I've been as high as 1500 mg in the past. I did have weight gain at higher doses but I think it was the really high doses. I don't remember anymore. I was on ER and that may have mattered with side effects.

600 was the dose I liked the most. Worked well for a good while and had no side effects at all.

Well the thing is I need it for sleep. I wasn't sleeping at 300 so then I got increased to 450 which worked good but I feel like my sleep is doing bad again and I was thinking of a higher dose. But it doesn't make you tired at a high dose? That's weird. I miss the days when 100mg would knock me out lol

Seroquel makes you sleepy because it acts only as an antihistamine through a dose of about 150mg. After that other effects also kick in. Some people think that those other effects work as an antipsychotic, true, but that they also negate the effects of the antihistamine (which can include weight gain as well). That would be why a higher dose of Seroquel might not work as well as a sleep aid and why you might not have the same other side effects at a higher dose either.

Also you know that you are using a highly potent antipsychotic just as a sleep aid. I'm going to assume that nothing safer works for you...?

I'm prescribed 25-50mg for sleep. Not very effective but I realize it's a tiny dose/baby dose. I rarely take it but sleep is not a problem for me at the moment.

Missing sleep is the worst and a recipe for disaster for me. I'm sorry you are struggling and hope you find something to help soon.

I was on 300mg for a while, but it wasn't really helping me, so now I'm on 100mg for sleep. I plan on dropping it down before too long.

I use it as my AP and have been on it for 12 years now.

I was on 300mg for awhile. It always knocked me out about a half hour after taking it, and made it next to impossible for me to get up in the morning, and then made me tired and grumpy all of the time, and then made me want to eat an entire buffet constantly. I would get up and eat four bowls of cereal in the morning. No exaggeration.

And it totally washed out my personality.

So, overall bad experience for me.

I always wondered if I was on a high dose. From reading these responses I guess not.

Good luck, rx!

I was wrong. THe max dose is 800 or 900. I knew that; I don't know why I said 1200. Maybe because my pdoc says she is quite comfortable with 1200 and uses it fairly frequently. I don't know. Anyway, sorry for misinformation.
