How many of you have an atypical AP along with an older AP, like Haldol, in their med cocktal? How does this work out for you?

My mother takes Olanzapine. Her other doctor prescribed Haldol. I am pulling my hair out some nights with my mother's extreme agitation which the daily dose of Olanzapine does not address. Next appointment is one month from now. Out of stress and fatigue on my part, I am thinking of using 2 mg of Haldol as a sleep aid PRN for my mother. In this way, she can sleep, and then I will be aboe too. I tell you, I almost lost it a week ago. I need to do something to survive. My own appointment is two months away. I do not think the low dose of Haldol will cause any problems, or even oversedation. I watch her closely every night through a camera in her bedroom.

Some thoughts on my part.

BTW I am using a supplement for myself that contains Valerian and Melatonin for sleep. It works.

That sounds like a good idea, you could call her pdoc and get the ok.
You have been such a good son to care for your mother this way.

Her pdoc is unavailable to be phoned or emailed. So I may take it upon myself to administer this med. I guess that I can always get an approval from her physician who prescribed the Haldol.

Haldol just doesn't make me tired in general. I was on 7mg for awhile and it didn't make me tired.

Good luck, tucson! You're a good person.

His mom is elderly and has dementia so he needs to be careful with the dosing.

Yes, I agree. 2 mg PRN. It is bliss getting part of the evening free. I am recovering from the craziness here. I will make an appointment with her PCP on Monday. Right now I am watching her through a video camera.
