So I've been steering clear of my pdoc's desire to give me Abilify. I finally admitted to her that it was because I didn't need weight gain to add to the million other things I deal with.

She told me.. 'No weight gain'. Yet... the internet is splattered with weight gain propaganda.

Any insight into this?

Yes, I did gain some weight. If I was careful I could avoid it, but it was hard work and the desire to eat was strong in me. It wasn't as bad as some other med.

I don't know if it causes weight gain, but if there are lots of stuff online about it, you should research it.

Here's why meds cause either weight gain or loss. The med changes the body's weight set-point by telling the brain to either gain or lose weight to the new set-point so you gain or lose regardless of what you eat. A good example of this is how women used to use cigarettes to control their weight. Most people gained 10 lbs or more after they stopped smoking.

I gained weight but I was on lithium too which I think is more responsible for it than the abilify.

I haven't gained weight on Abiliify. It was one of the reasons my pdoc put me on it. Now if it just would've worked...

I gained some weight on it, but today was my last dose of it. It doesn't help that I'm taking lithium as well.

I gained a significant amount of weight on it. Around a 3rd of what I now currently weigh. It's not the most desirable side effect, but I've learned that it's either being happy and healthy, or skinny and sick, so I choose happy and healthy.

I have been on Abilify several times over the years. The only reason I didn't stay on it continually was the cost. It's not the cheapest drug out there. No weight gain for me.

I gained 20 pounds on abilify in a very short period of time it pissed me off so I
stopped taking it and was able to lose the twenty pounds fairly quickly.
I can't imagine how much weight I would have gained if I stayed on it.
I told my pdoc that what was the point if it was going to make me fat I would
be depressed even more. I did not have a good experience with abilify.
