Just came out on facebook about my hospital stays over the last 20 months. People were shocked but overall supportive. I am a little relieved not to be hiding my pain anymore.

I think that is a good decision. No need to be ashamed of needing help.

Congratulations; I support your decision. Beware of stigma-induced blowback.

Thank you for sharing with us and congratulations!!! I bet that feels wonderful! I'm very glad to hear you received such a warm and comforting reception. Its a reminder that there really are some decent, caring people out there.
Just a warning however, my hospital said I should stay off Facebook as if I don't, potential future employers can find and use the information not to hire me. Probably safest to use a fake name and even then it can be iffy. |

This is part of what I meant by 'stigma-induced blowback'. Facebook is a way different place than an anonymous psychiatric support forum. With any luck, someone Googling my name or the name of my business will not learn the name Lefty the Salesman.
