...teeth grinding at night.

I used to grind my teeth and bought a $500 mouth guard. But then I get dry mouth at night when I use it.

So I found myself frustrated last night when I woke up and found myself grinding my teeth again. Is this due to meds? Or nicotine patch or what?

Does anyone else deal with this frustrating issue? I have decent teeth so I don't want to grind them to stubs.

Certain medications cause teeth grinding. I had a med that locked my jaw at night I had to stop taking it.

Welbutrin increases my grinding but I've been a grinder since childhood.....it must be a stress thing or coping mechanism for me. I have now ground all the enamel off the back morals and it's nothing but dentin would seriously increases cavity risk. I have dry mouth and it's from meds....doctor told me to use A special mouth rinse as dry mouth is one of the biggest causes for cavities. I had 4 and he said I never have plaque or tarter so my cavaties are 109% dry mouth related.

My dads a grinder and his teeth were nubs by his 70's. Little bitty nubs. I take my guard out in my sleep at night....but I keep trying because I've watched people lose their teeth and it doesn't just effect your appearance (although it does do that) it's difficult to eat and painful and can even effect your health pretty severely.

I have strong teeth also. They are whiter than most and straighter than most. Every dentist has commented on it (especially as I'm a coffee drinking smoker). They also admire my x-rats which is almost funny. Too bad they didn't offer modeling contracts for teeth x-rays cause I could really use the money.

Unfortunately my 19 year old son did not inherit my one quality trait....he got his dads teeth and they do not have much to any enamel and are discolored and require constant work

Yes, meds can cause teeth grinding. It's called bruxism. Google your meds with the terms 'side-effects, bruxism' and see what you come up with.

I grind my teeth in my sleep when I'm very stressed or depressed. It comes and goes. I haven't done it bad enough to cause damage although from my ED, my teeth are getting bad in my molars I thought this wasn't an issue anymore...

I grind and clench my teeth day and night. I wear a mouthguard at night. It helps with my TMJ pain so much! I've been clenching since my teen age years

Wow. Seems like a common problem. Guess it's back to wearing my night mouth guard to protect my pearly whites.
