I have to change my Med D plan b/c the one I had has been sanctioned and the one they propose replace it would make one month of clozaril alone cost more than I've been paying for 3-4 months of meds. I've been spending hours on the medicare site trying to find something that will work. I nearly gave in to a pretty crappy but better than anything else I'd found policy when I discovered with ExpressScripts and using mail order I can save myself enough to have the money be no worse than it is now.
I will have to work hard at the mail order and being responsible for tracking when I need to order. This scares me a bit but I know my mom and therapist will both help. Has anyone had any experience with this provider? I had express scripts years ago when I worked but Med D is always different. Thanks!

I use ExpressScripts and have been satisfied with their service thus far. I don't have mail order, I just go through my local pharmacy because I recently went through the hassle of changing providers AND pharmacies, and I don't want to do it again for a while. None of my meds cost over $2.95 for a 30-day supply, but they're all generics and not specialty drugs. I also get Extra Help because my income from SSDI is pretty low, even for a widow with no dependents.
I don't have any complaints. Before I went on Medicare, I blew through my savings paying for my meds, which all together were in the neighborhood of $1000/month.

The AARP plans here charge about $40/month for clozaril alone. Clozaril is really limiting my choices.
THat's really good you have that; I've never had a policy that I could afford a non-generic med with the Part D. I use patient assistance for the name brand meds I have to have. I live in a really rural area and don't get a lot of choices; at this point none are really good.

It is ridiculously complicated because the hospital I go to has a policy against drs. accepting samples or anything else from drug reps. They can get samples if there is an unusual situation like a patient who can't afford the med to try but would get it through patient assistance if it worked. But none of the reps actually gave us samples last year when I was in that situation. So I couldn't try a couple of new meds before going on clozaril. Clozaril worked out fine and the only problem is that I've gained weight but now they want to make me pay a ton for that when I might have been able to get latuda or Saphris for free. (but I do respect the hospital's policy).
such a mess....
