I found this interesting link. While I believe it's not the only cause... it is an interesting read. I become high in spring and fall, when allergies are triggered and weather changes.

I think the change in the amount of light more accurately accounts for the increase in bipolar symptoms. More light = more hypomania/mania, less light = increased depression.

I agree with the issues of the change in the lighting. Like a lot of people I'm sure, I find this time of year especially difficult with the sun setting so much earlier and coming up so much later.

where I live the allergy level is very high most of the year ... as a child i was treated for anxiety when it really was allergies ... took many years and a lot of stressful times before I figured that out ... still to this day sometimes I have to guess whether my stress is rising or just an allergy... so I take an antihistmine first and only if it does nothing then my prn ... also when they beat you done it can make you feel like depression ... except it eases faster if the weather changes ...

yup... my wife has serious allergy problems in the fall when the sun starts sinking. I noticed this year she seemed pretty down. Nothing like my 'downs'... but not herself. I'm thinking she is reacting to the light rather than the allergies. Although they do suck for her.
