I was driving the car when the phone rang. I didn't recognize the number but it looked local so I pulled over and answered it. The man asked for me by name. I thought maybe it was a bill collector. But he then said that he was from social security and I had been approved! My first time applying and I got it! He had many minutes worth of questions to ask me to confirm, but we went through it and finally we were done. I can expect my first deposit on Friday. Its not a million dollars, but its better than a punch in the nose. I just can't believe they accepted me the first time out! No appeal, but hassle, nothing. I am so happy with my lawyer (who gets paid out of what I get), and the judge whom I worked with. I will have to tell DHS about getting more money which will cut down my food stamps (and I hope I can keep my medicaid). I don't think its a huge amount of money so it should all be okay. Its not like I won the lottery even though it feels like it!

Congrats. My mom is a legal aid attorney so I know somewhat how frustrating it can be.

That's so wonderful! Big, big congrats.
It took me 2-1/2 years to get Social Security. Social Security "lost" my documents, although they said they weren't really lost...just misplaced. They apparently had sent them half way across the country -- honestly -- I am not exaggerating -- into a warehouse. Anyway, I called my Senator's office, and had my check in 1 week! Even he was surprised it came so quick. And by the way, my lawyer didn't really do much at all. It was me calling SSA that got the SSD insurance. |

Wow flower. That sucks. Glad you got it fixed!! It took me the year that my lawyer said it would.
