When Manic (or in my case hypomanic):
Enrique Iglacias- I like How it feels
Coldplay- Paradise
U2- Beautiful Day
Grouplove- Welcome to your life
The Weeknd- Starboy
Empire of the Sun - Alive
REM-the Great Beyond
Luke Fiasco- Superstar

Depressed:
Coldplay- Fix You
Cashier No.9- Lost at sea
X Ambassadors - Unsteady
Royksopp- You Don't Have a Clue

It's funny, because I relate to the same music in both states, just in different ways.

Most Pink Floyd especially Mother, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here
The Tragically Hip (Canadian) Scared, and Wheat Kings
Most Velvet Underground Kyote especially
There's so many, I'll stop here

My go-to manic bands are Prodigy and Rammstein. When depressed I don't really listen to music.

There are so many songs I could list I'm sure, but a few that stand out to me right away are:

Hangin' Tough - New Kids On The Block

Summer, Highland Falls - Billy Joel

Hold On - Wilson Phillips

Too many to list: music is my life. It varies dramatically too from The Stone Roses, The Beatles, The Killers, Lilly Allen, Muse, The Velvet Underground, The Wombats, The National, The Pixies, Portishead, Pulp, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Tori Amos, Rage Against the Machine, The Cure, Eminem, James Blake, Amy Winehouse and the one and only genius that is PJ Harvey.

Oh, and I could go on. Manic or depressed I listen to a wide range of music just more mood specific depending on what sort of episode it is.

SInead O'Connor "I never said I was tough, that was everyone else. So you're a fool to attack me, for an imagine that you built yourself". I think the song is called "as much sorrow dead"
Thanks for this!

Wow! I like a lot of those same musicians. Tori Amos kept me alive in my younger years when I was very self destructive. Same with the cranberries. I need to listen to music more. I used to all the time...

My current obsessions are evanescence, especially tourniquet, and disturbed, especially their cover of sound of silence.

I have been stuck in a major depression for a while now...

Tori is very healing. I met her last year and she is the most grounded, preset, compassionate and giving human being. My respect for her only grew. She meets with fans before each show are charges nothing for the honour. What a beautiful soul.

my first year of being sick, prior to being diagnosed, I was obsessed with My Chemical Romance...they are the soundtrack to my madness. Three Days Grace resonated with my depressions (One X album)...'when you're on the edge and falling off, it's all over for you'
it took me a long time to listen to that album once I got over that first major depression because it spoke so much to me during the depression.

I used to listen to The World Is Ugly by My Chemical Romance on repeat for weeks. I was obsessed and it would make me so emotional.
Thanks for this!

"Just sounds more vicious, than I actually mean. I really am soft, yes, gentle and sweet. Why, must you, always be around? Why can't you just leave me be? You've done nothing so far but, destroy my life you cause, as much sorrow dead, as you did, when you were alive"

More SInead O'Connor lyrics. This song really relates to how I feel about mental illness. Even when stable it effects me and that is how this song so deeply reasonates with me.

I definitely relate to Fix You by Coldplay when feeling depressed, like yourself.
Leaving Home by Big Scary is another one.

If It Makes You Happy by Sheryl Crow is a nice one when I'm manic lol.
