I got my lab results back.
my total cholesterol was 284
My HDL was 148 which is the highest it has ever been for some odd reason.
LDL was 118
triglycerides was 90
ratio chol/hdl=1.9 which is good.

I see my doctor next week....
should I be worried about my cholesterol?

Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Like you, my ratio was fine, but my HDL was so high that it was a concern.

I have familial hypocholesterolemia and I'm pretty sure my psych meds were making my cholesterol much worse. It sucks.

Sometimes you can't do anything about the cholesterol unless a psych med is causing it to be high. In my case, I've never been overweight, so weight loss wasn't an option for me. I just went with the Atorvastatin/Lipitor route, which isn't too awful for me. I'm already taking psych meds, so one extra tiny pill isn't a problem for me.

Was your HDL always elevated? Do you think it's a diet thing or maybe caused by something else?

Mine is around 700. Don't worry. Lol (hence why I'm on lipitor and getting off Zyprexa)

of course the HDL is the good cholesterol so it is good that it is high...it has just never been that high!
thus causing my total to be high.
I don't want to take statin drugs.

When I was on an AP my cholesterol went sky high, I quit and it went back to normal but I didn't. So I started an AP again and and take cholesterol meds. Given a choice between normal cholesterol or a normal life with a cholesterol med I choose the cholesterol med and a normal life.

I doubt you have anything to worry about since it's only the HDL that's high.

The total is only high because of the good cholesterol is high, I doubt your doctor will worry about it. Might have you take another blood level in 6 months just to keep an eye on it. When I'm not on APs my total is high because of the HDL and the docs never worry about it, just tell me I'm lucky to have such high HDL

Yes that is much too high.

There is all the buzz around how healthy are statin drugs that are suppost to lower cholesterol.

To me no body can figure out what's worse to die from cholesterol or heart/plaque disease or unstable Bipolar that can cause a quick exit.

Please make sure you get straight answers out of your doctor.

Good luck

I don't know about cholesterol but it seems the above posters all do. I'm sorry it's high Bizi. You sound like you eat so healthy.
