If I take more than 600mg of seroquel, I start having visual hallucinations. Anyone else get this paradoxical side effect?

Too much Seroquel makes me agitated and gives me sui thoughts... but they're not depressive sui thoughts. They're just sui thoughts out of anger and irritability.

So I'm not surprised it does weird stuff like give you hallucinations

The most I've taken is 250mg I can't go higher because I get horrible akathisia. Im down to 150 now.

hi im new to this site but far from new to depression ive suffererd from anxiety and depression for 30 years which has controlled my life ive tried so many meds over them years ( benzo, loads of anti dep and even lithium with not much help if any at all but ive never been on more than 1 lot of drugs the same time , like using ( an add on ) .... i dont know where to turn or what to do anymore i never have any motivation or energy to do anything i also have (fibro and chronic fatigue which leaves me sleeping alot i need something to give me that boost to want to get up and do things i feel ive wasted to many years of my life as it is my pdoc cancelled last app with her which was suppose to be 2 weeks ago and now thats not till end of feb but said i should start seroquel xl 50mg ive only had 4 lots so far but only thing it does to me is make me even more tired which isnt helping at all as im always so so sleepy plus ive read this drug isnt used on ppl with anxiety/dep any advice plz i wanted to post this under a new subject but couldnt see where u could

Sounds similar to serotonin psychosis.

Psych drugs are somewhat unpredictable, even in the 21st century. The drugs now aren't all that much different from the the drugs 50 years ago, just more tolerable.

Do you need to increase your dosage? If you have poorly controlled or uncontrolled hallucinations, maybe a different antipsychotic? Some people do take 2 antipsychotics at the same time. I have low dose (2mgs) risperdal I rarely take on top of ongoing Abilify. Works better than increasing the Abilify, oddly enough.

One thing that I thought is that since you're on lithium, maybe its the lithium+seroquel combination that's resulting in these weird effects?

Hope you and your prescriber can work something out.

Welcome to PC it sucks that it sounds like you've been receiving so little help . I believe that seroquel is sometimes used for anxiety and depression, especially if other classes of drugs have had sub optimal results. Again welcome, I also am in the U.K. ( )

I hope you don't have to wait until February to receive some help......

I've only ever taken up to 200 mg seroquel, then had to stop it due to severe allergic reaction, so I haven't experienced this

I used to take higher doses, but now at only 50mg I am getting hallucinations when its effect is at its highest (i.e. when I no longer have any saliva and am close to passing out). I start seeing spiders and the like and all kinds of things out of the corners of my eyes. I've been meaning to bring it up with my pdoc, though it doesn't bother me so much that I'd change the Seroquel -it really helps me sleep.

I take 3-300mg and sleep fine

I take 600mg of the Quel and I sleep like a rock for 6-8 hours. I sometimes see shadows late at night which freak me out but its nothing that I would say the Seroquel is doing.
