My father was married and divorced 8 times.
My mom just divorced once and remarried.
I wonder if there's less active bipolar symptoms with a more stable family life?

My parents are still together and have had a very stable marriage. My BP started young and got severe but I also had PTSD from other abuse I was suffering so that may have contributed. I think any type of trauma, including parents divorcing, as a child is a big risk factor for developing BP and making it more severe. You of course have to have the genes/pre-disposition for it though.

I agree about trama bringing bipolar out more. I had swings that weren't diagnosed bipolar until I had a big trauma when we lost our house in the housing crash. Then I got horrible, almost non-functional, mostly manic. I'm sure the trauma triggered me.

favorite quote from the movie, "ET"
when Elliot tells his friends in the park what they have to do to save ET from the scientists, Greg asks, "Why doesn't he (ET) just beam up?" to which Elliot replies, "This is REALITY, Greg!"

Yes. Housing trauma is bad. We lost most of our house in an earthquake. I think it got my ptsd going.

Living with my mom was traumatic and I had lots off stressful episodes. That's why it's surprised me that I've had some since moving out.

My parents were divorced but the hell didn't start until my mom died 6 months later and my dad moved his pregnant mistress into my moms bed. THAT is when i really snapped because that's when the abuse began. I blame my PTSD on that but as far as BP, I think we're born with a predisposition to it from the start. I believe that even if my parents stayed together and were happy, I'd still end up MI.
