I am supposed to see Pdoc Wednesday and DHS sends me a letter saying I'm not eligible for Medicaid because I'm not all these things- including disabled and have minor children in the home! I qualify for both these things! Now I have to get a lawyer and prove I'm right. Stupid. I even faxed my approval letter from disability to my case worker when I got it a few months ago. I've called my case manager (different person) to hopefully help me with this. I can't even refill my meds! Wtf?

UPDATE:

Omg. I just talked with my case manager (at pdoc's office) and we are going to work this out. I still can keep my appointment Wednesday but getting my scripts may be a problem. Why are people at DHS so messed up? It's like they don't have enough buttons to push so they just cancel people's Medicaid randomly.

My case manager said there may be a way to get my meds in the interim. I thought things were going too well. Guess it was time for a monkey wrench.

You have my sympathies. My Medicaid got cancelled this past summer because my income was just barely over some arbitrary line. This was about the time my husband died so their timing stunk. I blew through my meager savings paying for meds to the tune of $800+ per month; thank God I got Medicare a few months later or I don't know where I'd be right now.

Glad to see you possibly will get your meds. That could be dangerous for you if you couldn't.
Hope everything works out for you.

I'm sorry. I hate dealing with Medicaid. Although I was told yesterday that the program I had it through it gone. I got no notice of this nor has anyone mentioned it to me in the numerous conversations I've had with them lately. And there isn't anything online about people being upset about it. I think she was wrong and thought I was in a different program or something. The mess goes on and on. I hate calling them and everything to do with them and to make it worse they owe me a lot of money and I can't get them to pay it.

My old county was great.

Anyway, you have my total sympathy.

Go you! Beat the system!

If you get desperate check out rxoutreach.com They have really good prices on meds. I used them a lot when I was uninsured. One of my scripts would have been a few hundred dollars/month and they got it for $40 or $50/3 months.

You ask why your DHS is so messed up....interesting, maybe it's "just" your state, or locale? Offices may differ in different areas. When I lived in a different state (although that was a very long time ago, so maybe they are better now) the workers were terribly rude and slow. But for this place I now live, our DHS workers have been very good. I don't know how it will be now, though. I had a great worker! But they have now switched to a "system" that does "not have individual workers." I really, really miss her!!! My mental health clinic is the same thing -- they have switched to a "pool" of people who are at a central location, not at any clinic, and they really don't know much about one's individual case, and they do not have a way to find out -- they take a message only, for someone at the clinic. There are about 7-8 clinics in the system, which is a public service system through our county. It's called the County Health Dept. It takes Medicare and Medicaid, one of the few,or maybe the only, clinic in our area that does take them. As for what you can do about the situation, sounds like you're already working on it and getting some results. One thing I had to do twice, was that they assigned me to ineffective and rude workers. I demand and get courteous and respectful people no matter where it is. Public service, doctors and their receptions and other staff, retail stores, banks, phone companies. I have changed many of these over the years, and several very recently since things have gotten so out of control, with these telephone systems, with all the buttons and layers. I found a bank that actually answers the phone in person, or if not right away, you can intermediately leave a message and someone calls back PDQ. As for the DHS worker, I contacted the supervisor right away, and told him that she was "not a good fit" for me. Useful language for all sorts of things, by the way. I told him what qualities I need in a worker. So he reassigned me to another worker who was just as bad as the first one. I complained a second time about her, and the supervisor (a very nice man, very helpful) assigned me to Linda, who has worked with me now for several years till I guess they recently kicked her into the pool of workers.
