Several spikes of sadness today, with return to baseline mood. I have been on 200 mg for a couple of weeks. I usually have longer cycles - this down-baseline-down-baseline is an unusual pattern for me.

Sounds like it could be a major side effect of the medication. See: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/tegretol-side-effects.html

Quote:
Major Side Effects

If any of the following side effects occur while taking carbamazepine, check with your doctor immediately:
  • feeling sad or empty
  • sudden, wide mood swings
  • mental depression with restlessness and nervousness or other mood or mental changes
Can you contact your pdoc about this? This doesn't sound normal!

You also mentioned that it's an unusual pattern for you.
Thanks for this!

Yes, I will report it to the pdoc tomorrow. I stopped Tegretol yesterday because it gave me an itchy allergy which I scratched so much that the night before I could not fall asleep without Zyprexa. It is when I combined Tegretol with Zyprexa that I started feeling sudden, wide mood swings and sadness. But without Zyprexa, I could not sleep, so I stopped. Let us see what she recommends tomorrow.
