After a long conversation with my pdoc on Tuesday, it came to light that I have hallucinations a lot of the time, including outside of mood episodes. But they generally aren't distressing (since they tend to be nonsensical), just distracting.

Is hearing voices always psychosis? Or can it be a normal state of being?

Hmm I'm not sure the answer to your question but I'm glad you figured out its hallucinations. I'm glad they're not scary.

As part of the new wave of the antipsychiatry movement, there's things like The Hearing Voices Network. They argue that people have heard voices for much of human history and that individuals should decide how to best deal with their voices.

I hear voices that are tied into my past and my obsessive traits. Personally, Wellbutrin made it a lot better, I'm guessing by lifting my mood a good bit. I now can deal with the remaining voices much, much better.

I wouldn't worry too much. If you're functioning with remaining voices, I'd let it be. Some people even like their voices, or at least grow to appreciate them.

Hope things work out well for you.
