Hello there!

I wasn't sure if belong is the Sexual Issues section but I want to hear about how my fellow bipolarians (haha new word), deal with this issue.

I have lost my sex drive. I mean it is zilch, nada, kaput. I mean I haven't had actual sex in a very long time, and that's okay, but this it is interfering with my relationships/friendships with men, and even my writing.

Now look, I am not saying that women are "required" to be sexual when dealing with friends or even writing, but I do miss that "spark" of a hint of naughtiness I used to have. It was fun you know. Fun to be flirty, fun and spontaneous. Even my desire "take care of myself" is kaput.

Is this med related? I mean I have been on the same meds for many years, and it never really was an issue. Have any of you had a dip in your libido during your bipolardom? (new word again haha!).

Could this be an episode or a mixed state? I mean my mood is okay, I am not down or depressed. But I just turned down a roleplay (I love to collaborate on stories), because it was an on an adult roleplaying site and I think he was expecting some sort of erotica. (I know there are PG roleplaying sites, but I want some sort of fun but I don't? What the hell?)

I am so lost and confused with this. I want to bring back the spark, but I just can't. And I know you can't force these things.

Libido, oh libido where have you gone?

Can anyone else relate to this?

I understand this, I went through about a year and a half with little to no sex drive. I've just come out of it!! I think for me my head was so wrapped up in my dx and being ill that I couldn't think about anything else. Sorry your struggling with this....very frustrating

Zoloft made it impossible to climax and my drive was low. Now that I'm on Wellbutrin, things are much improved.

I had a suppressed drive when I was in a 6 month depression episode around age 16 and have had less of a drive recently going through med changes and only recently starting to view myself as bipolar (diagnosis I only heard of a month or two ago, though it was apparently given in August after I had an insomnia fueled episode). There was a period of time in 2001 where I also had a somewhat deflated drive. But fortunately, it went away and I didn't have issues with it even on Lexapro, except for the first few hours after taking it. So even if your drive feels gone temporarily it's prob not extinguished. Mine definitely came back and was great.

Great to hear your stories you guys, thanks for your input! I think it may be med related, although I have been on Haldol and Klonopin a very long time. I may need to bring this up with my doctor.

My drive seems to come and go (no pun intended) while on my current meds. There are times when I'm totally hypersexual, and times when I couldn't care less. It seems to cycle about once a week.

Previously when I was taking antidepressants, some of those just made my drive evaporate. Never had an issue while on Haldol and Klonopin, though.

I am currently pretty depressed and have lost my drive for a fair few months now. It doesn't help not having a partner (see previous threads). I was on lexapro before and that killed my drive.

My fiance calls me a sex camel, if that tells you anything, though I don't think this has anything to do with my meds as I've been like this well before my bipolar dx.

Effexor killed it, but Wellbutrin brought it back. However, I'm stuck in a dry spell anyway..

Mine is and always has been through the roof. Even when depressed it only goes to what some folks would consider normal. It must be strange for my wife to see me moving slowly through the house, no energy, in tears or whatever.. but then hit her up for sex when the kids finally go to bed.
