Hi Peers!

I have been diagnosed with Bipolar for 15 years now. Things have slowly become stable over the last 8 years. I am (I thought) controlled on meds. Recently I have become enraged easily and physically aggressive. I have also been hyper-sexual. I don't know if I'm approaching an episode or what. But the anger and irritability has been horrible which is usually indicative of an episode. I am wondering what meds are out there to control the horrible anger. Anyone, everyone, please help! Does anyone share this problem? What meds do you take that help this?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to PsychCentral!

Sounds like you are having a tough time.

Do you currently see a psychiatrist?
If so, does s/he know about the symptoms you've shared here?

Which meds do you take now?

People with hypomania/mania are often prescribed an atypical antipsychotic and often a mood stabilizer. I hope you can see a psychiatrist asap.

My manias usually start angry and irritable as hell .

Please let your Pdoc know ASAP, be proactive rather that having to and amends to anyone that winds up in the trail left behind.

There are loads of medications that can help.... Lamictal lithium AP's

When I was younger hypomania for me frequently manifested as strong irritability, anger, or rage.

Welcome to the forum.

What you describe sounds a lot like my hypomania. You asked what meds were out there to control this but you also said you were taking meds. Have you been taking an antidepressant? They sometimes can induce a hypomanic episode.

If it were me, I would contact my psychiatrist as soon as possible - before I became more unstable.

The medications act differently on different people, and you would need to just use the trial and error approach, as everyone does; I do not believe that there are specific medications for anger and irritability, but all medications that act against manic tendencies might do the right thing for you.

I can share that the medication that gave me a distinctly tranquil, serene mood was Tegretol. Unfortunately, I developed a rash on it and had to come off. I wish I could tolerate Tegretol.

Sometimes a cocktail or copping skills poop out. Like mermaid said what works is different for everyone. What helps me most is APs. ( antipsychotics) sometimes I just get lax in self care like keeping routines, eating right getting enough sleep and that can get things off tract quick.
