Who was the first person you told your BP diagnosis to? How'd it go? This is excluding mental health professionals

In my case, it was my nutritionist. She asked me which meds I was on (if any), and I just openly disclosed that I have BP. To my surprise, she was totally cool with it. She didn't treat me like I was a monster (unlike my old GP's nurses who did when I disclosed the diagnosis to them).

My husband was with me when I got the diagnosis. He handled it better than me.

Some of my sisters. They took me to the hospital when I went into that scary psychosis. When I was diagnosed.

My dad brought me to my pdoc appointment and the doctor told both of us at the same time that it "sounded like bipolar" (based on manic behavior my dad was describing that I hadn't really realized was abnormal).

My parents realized it first. I was living alone, and I visited them once a week or so. I got weirder and weirder, and they started urging me to see a psychiatrist. It was almost a year before I did so, and then I blew it all off.

My wife was in contact with my hospital pdoc. Then I told my roommate who lived with us. She had to know because she lived with us. lease

I've told a couple close friends as well.

I told my husband first, and only him. I don't trust anyone else in my family enough to tell them.

My bf, he came to get me after my appointment.

He chuckled and said "Well now THAT explains ALOT!"

Told my younger brother, mother and daughter after that, my mother took it badly at first, she was in denial for a while (old school MI doesn't exist)....

Then the rest of my siblings, and my friends everyone has been cool about it.

My DX has been an eye opener, an explanation for years of seemingly unexplainable behavior.

My best friend. I went into a major depressive episode and she urged me back into getting help and that's when I got diagnosed, so obviously I told her first.

I told my Twin. She said she was glad I had told her and that she has known for a long time there was something other than depression wrong with me.

No idea. First I was diagnosed with PTSD and major depression it was years later that it was changed to bipolar. many people knew about the PTSD and I didn't really believe the BP so I'm not sure who I told or when

my mother, who completely disowned me for it

little known fact: she actually asked to have it scrapped from my medical history, but of course they wouldn't do that
