I'm new to bipolar. So I have a lot of questions. I'm medicated. But I wonder if my medication isn't where it's supposed to be. I'm not hypomanic for the full 4 days. But I am hypomanic for at least two days. No sleep and hyper the next, plus racing thoughts and heightened sexuality. Could It be possible to only be hypomanic for 2 days?

I find almost anything is possible with bipolar. I personally have weeks long hypomanias and full mania at times.

I'm also fairly new to having a Bipolar diagnosis, but I've already learnt to not trust the meds 100% after a near manic episode, despite having had a meds increase a few days earlier.
I'd imagine it's entirely possible to be hypomanic for shorter periods of time than the full 4 days, and I'm pretty sure like yourself I've had 2-3 day long hypomanic periods before.

Totally possible. Seems like anything is possible with BP like someone else said. It's just that it's not recognized as an episode in terms of the DSM (the 4 day rule). Doesn't mean it doesn't exist if it's not 4 days.

If you have a mixed episode does it automatically put you in BP1 instead of BP2?

edit: I'm asking this because I'm normally hypomaniac, but I believe I have mixed episodes and need to discuss this with my doctor.

It use to mean bp1 but they changed so you can be bp2 with mixed. I think they realized mixed episodes happen across the spectrum

It's not in the DSM, but from what I've read I think clinicians acknowledge that there is such a thing as mixed hypomania. I'd talk to you doctor about it.

Mixed features can be bp1 or 2 and is considered a "specifer" in the new DSM
