Yesterday was the first time I had hallucinations while at work. My medicine usually has it under control. Does anyone else work and have to deal with their hallucinations? I eventually had to leave work early because it was interfering with my ability to work.

I have tactile and auditory and visual hallucinations, but I can usually tell what is real and what is not. Fortunately I have a coworker who helps me out when I dissociate but I've never had to do a reality-check with her.

I also told my bosses about my experience. They seemed sympathetic and understanding and were not too freaked out, but I'm still wondering if I made the right choice.

Does anyone have any experience/advice for this? Thank you.

I don't have any experience with this except when I was psychotic and dysfunctional.
You were brave to tell your workers about what you are experiencing.
hugs to you

I'm high-functioning as well. I work, but have never experienced hallucinations there. Can't help you out with that one.

Most of my hallucinations happen at night so I've never had them at work. However, I've had to deal with delusions at work and that makes it hard to work at times.

I wish i had some advice to give you but I don't... just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

High-functioning, with visual and auditory hallucinations. I call the ones during the day "daymares" because they tend to be very graphic and violent.
When they are bad, I put on headphones, and turn on calming music.
It helps to ground me
Also drinking a very hot cup of herbal tea helps because I have to slowly sip it and that seems to get my heart rate down

Thank you. Music and hot tea are a great idea.

I am also high functioning. I have hallucinations often. I have never told anyone at work about them though. I am very lucky that in mine line of work being a bit "different is accepted and even expected.

That's great. Do you have any coping mechanisms for them?

I'm what many people would call high-functioning, though I'm not as high-functioning as I think I should be.

Hallucinations are not uncommon for me at work. In fact, that's the main place I have them. Auditory. I write when I have a hallucination. My pdoc suggested that I try distracting myself visually -- like looking at a pretty picture online or looking out the window. I always forget to do this however. Deep breathing can help.

Wow. Thank you for the response. I can listen to music on my breaks but I haven't found something to help me off my breaks. Maybe distraction will help. I'll try if I can remember too.
