Has anyone here ever experienced auditory hallucination?

Hello, everyone, About an hour ago, just after midnight, I was sound asleep and was suddenly wakened by a man's voice ordering -- "GET UP!!!" I lay there without moving, absolutely terrified, for I don't know how long. I'm guessing somewhere between 2 minutes and 10 minutes. I listened intently to see if there were any noises in the apartment. I was certain at first that a man had gotten into my apartment. I finally got up the nerve to move slightly, then finally called 911. I stayed in bed, too scared to go into the living room. The 911 operator held onto my call until the police officers (two of them) checked around the building and the hallway, then knocked on my door to be sure I was safe. When I went to the door, there was my kitty, sleeping soundly in his usual spot! So I knew nothing had really happened.

I have never in my entire life had an auditory hallucination. And, since I've been an adult, never, ever was I so absolutely terrified. You've heard the expression, "My heart was pounding." Well, I've never experienced that till tonight. Yes, my heart was pounding out of my chest.

My meds are lamictal, 125 mg., escitalopram 10 mg (is that seroqouel?), and depakote 250 mg. I've been stable on these for about a month except for about 5 days of ultra rapid cycling immediately after a surgery that had nothing to do with the brain. I was in no pain from the surgery; had no anxiety about it. But the pdoc and the surgeon both told me it was physiological stress that set off the mood and personality change, and now it seems like I'm better, stable again.

I am very glad nobody had come into my apartment. But this is very disturbing. I will call my pdoc or on-call pdoc right away in the morning. I have cancelled everything else for the day tomorrow.

I have had this happen .being suddenly woken up by a voice that seems right next to you but is not. but I think i read it can have to do with the wake/sleep cycle and can occur in healthy individuals as well.

Hypnogogic hallucinations. They seem really real but happen when you are falling asleep or waking up.

Hey, gosh, thanks everyone for all your good information. I forgot the escitalopram is Lexapro. I need to write that on the bottle.

Yikes. Well, the crisis line said I need to see my therapist, as well as my pdoc. She said the therp could help me cope with it if it happens again. And it BETTER NOT happen again. Weep.

PS Is this a great emoji or what! Love it!

I've gotten a few auditory hallucinations. They would repeat the same things and make me not want to do stuff.

I've heard about things like this happening to mentally well people too and being part of the sleep cycle. I've had similar experiences lately without it being part of sleep....it's terrifying and I'm so very sorry this happened to you.

I had some really loud church organ music wake me up the other night, scared the **** out of me at the time, though I can see the funny side now.
I have had auditory hallucinations before, most recently a woman shouting 'woo' at me all day. Took me an hour or two to work out that it was in my head. I then had a dream where a woman told me that she'd been trying to get hold of me all day, but that I'd ignored her. Very odd.
Funnily enough I was on Depakote at the time and had been for about a month, and when I had my dose increased it almost sent me into a manic state and I had a bit of an episode that involved an auditory hallucination of music being played.

Yes like someone else said, that one is lexapro. Lamictal is mainly a stabilizer. I'd say you need a good AP. I get auditory hallucinations but they're not voices. It will be little sounds like a phone ringing, people talking in my condo hallway, and sometimes the sound of my front door being unlocked and handle turned. That one freaks me out. But yea like I said... a good AP should be in your mix. It's a must for me which is seroquel and geodon. I also take 300mg of lamictal a day and for once I'm doing decent. Wish you well!!

For me it is music. I will wake from a dead sleep to the sound of music just blasting. It seems so real that I will wake hubby up and ask him if he hears it too.
It was so scary at first, but now it is sort of like an old friend coming to visit.

For about the past 8 years I was hearing a loud man's voice, mocking me and tormenting me. He was so loud I couldn't accept he wasn't real.

But luckily, it stopped finally a couple of years ago. I was taking Abilify at that time.

I know how real it is. I'm not sure if it isn't real, actually. He used to torture me before my sleep. So he'd keep me up around 6 hours with his disgusting noises, before I could ever fall asleep. I am so glad I stuck it out with an ap. Those were some horrible years of my life.

I hope you get an ap. Then you just need to wait until it starts working

I waited 3 months until Abilify started working for me. I wish you wonderful luck.
