I tried searching the forum and Dr. Google and could not find anything.
But I feel like I skimmed through something about Benadryl for us once that I am now wishing I had read. I am sooooo itchy from all this pollen. Will I go into mania or something if I take it??? |

I take 50mg as part of my sleep cocktail every night.

I don't think it would make you manic. I take it sometimes for my anxiety, even if it doesn't work that well.

My doctor told me once to take Benadryl versus something else to calm down. It wasn't helpful but it's more likely to make you drowsy then manic.

Benadryl is fine. Are you thinking of prednisone?

I am not sure. I just probably just recalled seeing "Benedryl" in a thread and could not remember why it was mentioned. Thanks!

Thank you all, if the Benadryl does not make me crazy, this itching will!

If it doesn't work, ask your doc for Vistaril. It's anti-itch and calming as well.

I went to my GP today and I told her I take benadryl every night she said it wasn't good for me every night and wrote me a prescription for atarax instead.

I second the atarax suggestion. I've suffered with allergies and itching since childhood. Benedryl helps me sleep sometimes but using it nightly reduces its effectiveness. When I'm depressed, it's a bad med for me....can make the depression worse in many physical and mental ways. I have a pain cream I use for itching.....it's called Mountain Magic lineaments cream and is the ONLY cream I've ever found effective for itching, including prescription steroid creams. I like the smell but some people might not....but it works and that's most important. Good luck.....itching can truly cause insanity from my experience or make it worse at best.
