I think i am still depressed, but ususally am emotionless. Right now i've been crying (or at least eyes full of water) while listening to certain songs that are either sad or powerful.

Since some of the songs are sad, could i still be depressed? Or is this maybe hypo-mania in the early stages?

I think that we all cry at some songs. The emotion is what makes us human.
Do you feel depressed?

I don't usually cry though. This is very rare.

I feel crappy about my situation, but i'm not really lethargic.

Allow yourself the luxury of tears. Crying is okay. Crying is healthy. Maybe you are just learning how to let yourself cry?

What songs are bringing tears?
I find that Simon & Garfunkel's Homeward Bound is a major cryer for me!

this happens to me too. I'm usually not emotional but occasionally one thing might set me off like a song or a person. the past few days I've cried too much but I will feel better within minutes. I have no idea man

Yeah i feel better now too, and i didn't fully cry even i just got massively watery eyes. Isn't this usually typical of mania? Mar, what's your mood like? (other than numb as your profile states)

I think crying feels good. I haven't had a good cry since August. Some songs, when already emotional, make me cry too.

I don't find crying typical of mania. but that's just my experience.
either way crying can be good when it relieves the stress pent up inside!

Did you stop the abilify? I notice it's gone from your signature. If you cut it cold turkey that might be the cause. Coming off APs fast can really mess with you for a while.

I understand. But that's probably the cause of the crying and you probably are going to have more mood swings in the future. That is a ton of meds to dump at once and your brain is going to be stunned at the change. Please be careful; chasing mania can feel good temporarily and then get really bad. Been there, done that although not by stopping meds.

I'm new to medication, and being on 1500 lithium is enough for me. I am already emotionally flat, and anything more is overkill. I want to feel. I need more wellbutrin.

the problem you *may* find is that dumping the meds. cold turkey sends you into an episode. then by the end of it you will be crawling back to the doc to be put back on because you feel so horrible. the best way to actually STAY off those two meds long term is to taper

Depression alone can do that.

Feeling flat for me is usually depression. Rarely I've been a little overmediated and needed my AD lowered a bit but even really high doses of AP haven't made me flat exactly.

Hey. I think depression can definitely make me feel flat sometimes, It can also make me cry for seemingly no reason at times. But over medication can also make one feel flat sometimes- when I first started lamictal the first time it made me feel too stabilized- like I didn't have a normal human range of emotion or something. Luckily that side effect didn't last too long.

You say you got off everything but the lithium because you wanted to feel. And now songs are making you cry. Maybe that because now you ARE feeling, and your brain has to get used to it after being overmedicated and flat? Its a possibility anyway. And it is somewhat tramautic on the brain to suddenly stop strong psych meds- it may take some time to feel more like yourself.

In my experience, pdocs are much better putting ppl on meds than they are at taking them off. Mine have not always been so knowledgeable on how to slowly taper off of medication to avoid discontinuation syndrome (withdrawal effects).

Anyway I hope you start feeling better soon. Take care.

depression AND over medication can do that. many meds have made me and many many MANY others flat or depressed. talk to your p doc about it. you may be fine with just lithium . but tapering off is the best solution
tons and tons of meds aren't for everybody and many times meds are causing symptoms
again talk to your pdoc and do it safe
