have you ever been on an SSRI without a mood stabilizer or antipsychotic?

what was it and how much were you on?

what happened?

how fast did it happen?

BP II

Yes.
I have tried all SSRI meds.
Usually bad physical side-effects and/or allergy.
Reactions start almost immediately.

Celexa, Paxil, zoloft. All made me manic although I didn't know that was the problem at the time.

I took Prozac in my early 20's, went manic....told my doctor about the manic symptoms and he switched me to Paxil, I went manic, made some of the poorest life choices of my exsistence and was too scared to try meds again until an attempt several years later where I was clearly manic, they gave me Paxil and it happened all over again. I don't know if that long ago they didn't know about bipolar and SSRI's or if my doctors were poorly trained because I feel this never should have happened and I should have been warned about the possibility. I also went manic on Wellbutrin which is an SNRI I believe and again, I was not warned this could happen, even though I had a bipolar DX at the time. This was so long ago that I do not know how long it took for the symptoms to start, all I remember was how bad it was. Wellbutrin causes me to swing up rather quickly....within a week.

Zoloft helped for me too. This was before i was diagnosed, and i didn't get manic. I was on it for a short period of time though, i forget why or how long.

I took Lexapro and had immediate manic/psychotic symptoms at 5mg. Then it mysteriously went dormant for about 2 weeks until I upped to 10mg. Then I went full on manic.

Cipralex (lexapro) and I went hypo manic when abilify was added to boost it because it wasn't enough on its own.

I've been on APs while on AD's before and the only one that I can is Wellbutrin because SSRI's give me a horrible sex symptom. However if I take Wellbutrin without a stabilizer it makes me a dysphoric hypo/mixed/whatever the episode my be.
