My psychiatrist is leaving the practice and I won't get to see him at all anymore. He left 2 months of prescriptions for me and if I don't get an appointment with a new doctor within the next 2 months I'm screwed. I'm on clozapine and my primary won't touch that with a 20 foot pole.
This was the first competent psychiatrist I've seen outside of IOPs/PHPs and I'm really upset right now.

Awh. Sorry to hear that

I see you're from NH and I'm in northern MA now. Feel free to PM me if you need help finding a pdoc. Lots of great ones outside of Boston, but I don't know how far north you live

Edit: I see a psychiatrist in NH

I'm sorry your pdoc is leaving. Seems to be the norm today, that doctors bounce in and out of their place of employment. I had a terrific pdoc last year, saw her 5 times, then she left before my 6th appointment.

Thanks. The office my pdoc worked for said they were going to see if there's any other pdoc in the office that can take me so if that doesn't work out I'll PM you.

I'm sorry your pdoc is leaving. Mine is worth his weight in gold and is a big part of my support team. I hope you find a good pdoc soon. Good luck.

Five or so years ago my pdoc left her practice. I found out where she was going, right across town, and I followed her. Still with her to this day. Is your pdoc moving away?

As mentioned, sometimes pdocs are moving into a different practice and cannot take clients with them because clients are the "property" of the practice. When this is the case, and if they can be located, the client may then contact the pdoc and ask if s/he is accepting new clients in his/her new practice.

I'm surprised your pdoc did not help to connect you with a pdoc prior to leaving. The pdoc you've been seeing has pertinent info to share with any new pdoc.

I hope your transition for care goes smoothly.

My pdoc is switching offices in June. She going to mostly work with substance abuse clients. I hope to find out who my new pdoc is on the 23rd of this month. I hope it's the same one that my husband goes to. If it's the one I've had problems with I'll have to go somewhere else.

Kind of upsetting that he only left you 2 months of meds and no referrals.

I am so sorry this happened. I've really grown attached to mine and hope he doesn't leave anytime soon because I have terrible trust issues, even with him but it would be a million times worse if I had to start with someone new right now while I'm so symptomatic. I'm just so sorry this is happening. Hopefully your new doc will be amazing and you will feel comfortable right out of the gate. (((Hugs)))

I don't know what I'd do if I lost my pdoc. He is also my therapist.
I've seen him for many years and am just now sharing some things. It's taken me that long to trust him. He's very trustworthy; the trust issue is mine.

This has to be "unsettling" for you.

I had to say good-bye to my much-loved pdoc last summer, right around the same time my husband passed away, so it hit me hard. I'd been seeing him for over four years and I felt bereft. Thankfully he referred me to someone locally who, while not having Dr. Awesomesauce's personality, happens to know more about bipolar than Dr. A and has been good for me. So it worked out OK.

I hope you have good luck in finding a new pdoc. They can be hard to find, but it's worth the searching to get a good one. Take care.
