I've been on 1,000 mg Depakote XR, Prozec 40 mg, synthroid 50 mcg for two years now. While my mood swings have leveled out considerably, I feel 'lower' than I'm comfortable with on a regular basis. My doctor just added Abilify. I'm looking for pros & cons of experiences with Abilify or other recommendations. Thx!

I take 5mg but it's too new to me to share experiences. Maybe it's even too little.
How much are you on?.
Someone else will chime soon. Many of us here take it.

Abilify in combination with celexa made me mixed. But many people take it with no problem and it helps them. It is activating from what I hear.

I did really well on 20 mg. My husband is on 10 mg and my son's on 5 mg. If need be I'd go back on it. It was weight neutral for all of us and we all had no side effect.

I've been taking Abilify (5 mg) for about a month. I was already on 2 different ad year round but because I get so depressed during the winter my pdoc adds an extra one. The extra one didn't work and I went into a deep depression. Abilify was added and has helped get me out of that depression. It is activating for me and I've experienced no side effects to date. Good luck.....

My experience has been good. It got added to my other meds a few months ago and it really seemed to level me out. I've been more stable than I have been in years. I'm on 10 mg.

Good luck!

On 1000mg dep xr, and 5 mg abilify. Starting up made me drowsy for a bit after taking each pill, but that faded in a couple weeks. The Dep is just within therapeutic range for me, so I think the abilify is helping some too to keep things level as well as provide a margin of safety as the noise and paranoia seem to be gone now. Been on Abilify almost 8 weeks now.

Only downside is I think my tremor bumped up a little from baseline, and I'm more sensitive to caffeine, but also those two things interact, so I dunno. I just tell my psychiatrist what I see and say I'm happy with the result, she can figure out what did what herself! lol.

Have you had your thyroid checked lately? Low thyroid can cause depression. Just a thought. If I'm getting depressed I always get labs done before seeing my
Pdoc.

I tried Ability twice and it didn't work me either time.

Hope it does work out for you, though.
