Well I ran out of my klonopin a few days early but I remembered a dr telling me that Benadryl or vistaril often helps anxiety. I have a script for vistaril and it doesn't do ****. But I have been taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) before bed but today I tried a half dose for anxiety. All it did was make my body relaxed but my chest was still heavy. It just made me fall asleep and woke up at 10pm lol.

Anyone else try this for anxiety???

Yep I've taken Benadryl and vistaril. Both just make me
Groggy not calm.

At the ip where I work vistaril is commonly prescribed for anxiety, especially for hose in CD or dual program. Once my pdoc realized how high my anxiety was he gave me Ativan which I take prn now.

I've taken something else (OTC) sparingly and that does the trick for me. Mind you, this is on top of Xanax and clonazepam when I'm overly anxious.
My pdoc knows and it does not make him happy. This cocktail doesn't even make me yawn. I would not recommend this to anyone. Best wishes.

Aren't antihistamines 'uppers'. While they have a sedating effect I would expect that they only increase the anxiety.

---response. My pdoc gave me hydroxyzine because ativan was making me groggy. It works but i cant take it because Phoenix is very dry and it makes my skin too dry here.

Yes, Benadryl was my drug of choice for most of my life. If one doesn't do the trick, I took two, or three! Not smart. There has also been new info out that it causes Alzheimer's when done in excess (which I did). I'm highly environmentally allergic, too, so I always took Benadryl for that since I was a kid.

I have never heard of taking antihistamines for anxiety, unless that doctor thinks they will put you to sleep and you'll wake up without anxiety (??). Antihistamines are used to dry up your sniffy nose and runny eyes and also in sleep medicines period. On the other hand I guess they're pretty innocuous so you could try it. The sleepy kind, not the stay-awake kind which really could make you more anxious. And certainly not decongestants, which the ones you mention are not.
