So something happens to me in situations where I think I may be rushed or that I feel pressured. It's kind of hard to explain. It happens quite often but im not sure really what it is. I figure maybe some has experienced it as well. I'll try my best to explain and give examples. So I'll use a situation that happened last night. My husband and I went to get food at Taco Bell. I asked him to please not order yet because I don't know what I'm getting. Well 2.5 seconds later he is ordering all the food (for 4 ppl) he then turns to me and asks what I want and I say I don't know. Well now I'm in this wierd state where it's like I'm overwhelmed and trying to read seems impossible, thinking normally is impossible. My husband is looking at me while I pretend to look at the menu and then I say that I don't want anything. He gets mad and says that it's not rocket science, which just makes me feel worse. At this point all I want to do is run away and I'm upset. He's upset. Sometimes I cry to myself when this happens. It happens in different situations as well. I don't know what it is though, so I can't explain it to him. I don't know if it's some kind of anxiety or what. Has any of you experienced this? What do you do?

I think this could definitely be related to anxiety. A way to avoid this in the future is to make sure your husband gives you time to think about what you'd like to order, without pressure. I am not sure how often you order Taco Bell but you could also write down a list of your favourite menu items from there, and use that as a reference in the future.

My friends that go out to eat with me- even Starbucks- know that I'm never ready to order when its my turn. Even if we've been standing in line. So, I know the feeling you're describing. Maybe call it, "Hurry Up Anxiety"?

He said he didn't hear me. I may just make the list for different places we go. I get this same feeling others times as well, other than ordering food. Usually if I feel rushed or pressured. It's like it makes my brain not know anything

Yes. I know that feeling. Your mind just goes blank and you can't even read the words on the menu anymore. Everybody else is saying, "Hurry up! Hurry up!" but you can't. In fact, you can only go more slowly!

If you do a search for "bipolar disorder difficulty making decisions" you'll get lots of results citing both manic and depressive states as problematic for decision making. However, I seem to remember vaguely (thanks, ECT) an academic paper which included baseline decision making in its research. DShantel, you're not alone.

I've had moments like that.
It really sounds like anxiety to me.

I hope hubby will give you plenty of time in the future.

I have moments like this too when I feel pressured and it fills me with anxiety. I like the idea of writing down your favorite items from the menu. Would it help if you talked to your husband? Best wishes.

Thanks everyone. I will try the list of favorite foods and I'll try to talk to my hubby about it tonight. I just wasn't sure how to go about explaining it.

It's stress. And I don't like that your husband said, "It's not rocket science."
