I'm starting birth control pills for what might seem like a silly reason: I want to control when I get my period, so it doesn't happen the day of my wedding. That and I get heavy periods, so getting fewer, lighter periods works for me.

I'm worried, however, that birth control pills might destabilize my mood. Does anyone have experiences with birth control plus a mood (and/or psychotic) disorder? So far I'm not having any side effects, but it's only been a week.

I don't have the best answer. I've tried to stay away from altering hormones at all, so concerned messing with them might destabilize me further.

Went into an immediate deep depression when trying provera once, many years ago.

Hey there! A wedding?!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

When's the big day?

Birth control pills haven't affected my mood. They've made my periods lighter.

Birth control pills have completely destabilized my mood on several occasions. I attempted on my life a few months ago and I firmly believe it would not have happened had I not been taking birth control pills. Just a word of warning. Be careful.

This whole time I thought you were a guy. Probably because you chose Franz Kafka as your handle.

I've been on the nuva ring for several years. I've never had a problem with it. My periods are pretty much non existent. It's only recently that I've noticed that the week before my "period" (the last week it is in) I can be sadder than the norm, but that's it.

I took bc pills a long time ago and experienced a lot of irritability, rage, and some paranoia...but I wasn't on any meds at the time so it's hard to say if the pills were at all to blame. I am no longer able to take hormonal bc because I get migraine w/ aura so who knows how they would affect me now.

Just keep an eye on how you're feeling. And congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Yep, I'm a lady who likes Kafka. A dorky lady.

Thanks all for the answers! Seems it depends on the person. I have no side effects so far so maybe I'll get lucky.
