I started seroquel a couple weeks ago. For the past four years I've tried most ssris, wellbutrin, Latuda, abilify, zyprexa, you name it. I have a hypomanic episode once a yr, mostly in March/April. Then I'm depressed. Two weeks ago I started seroquel xr 300mg and now I feel "normal" if there is such a thing. I read seroquel has been approved for bipolar depression. Today I wrote a journal entry titled "Dear Seroquel." Yea I know it's weird but oh well. The thing I'm concerned about is will it cause weight gain? Anyone else have experience with seroquel?

Seroquel pulled me out of a deep depression in just four days. Unfortunately it was too sedating (I was falling asleep driving to work in the AM) so I had to stop it. It's pretty notorious for weight gain. Try to watch your diet and exercise now. Seroquel can make you hungrier and crave bad food.

Yep. Weight gain. When I take it I feel as if I could eat a horse. But if you're not having that symptom right away, you might not have it at all. Good luck, glad it's working out for you.

No weight gain here, but it made me feel emotionally flat. I had to go off it for that reason. I couldn't feel anything... at all. Then that lack of feeling gave me suicidal thoughts because I felt "well, is this how life is going to be? No enjoyment? Just emotional flatness?"

Sorry for the negative post. Just watch out for things like that. Emotional numbness is a terrible feeling and I hope you don't have to go through it.

I have taken 600mg of seroquel xr in the past and currently take a small dose of normal seroquel at nighttime to sleep. I have never had any weight gain. Apparently it can make some people hungrier though, so just watch your portions and what kind of food you eat, and you should be fine. Exercise is never a bad thing either.

Glad to hear that it's working for you.

I was on Seroquel many years ago. It was too sedating for me....should have taken it at night. It's been so long ago I don't remember if I suffered any side effects. I'm glad it's working for you. Best wishes.

Yeah definitely watch out for the weight gain. I had to get off it because of that.

It was an ok med for me, but I went off it due to weight gain. Went fine for a month, then BAM, gained 5lbs in 2 weeks even eating healthy/low cal.

Yes, I love Seroquel XR as well. I have been on this one fore a few days and I like it WAY better than the regular one. I used to feel super grongy and sedated and the meds would wear out faster ( you take that one twice a day). XR gives me no side effects and I feel so good.

I'm glad Seroquel works so well for you. Its not for me, but for some people, it can be a very good option. When people can tolerate it, Seroquel can cover a lot of bases--anxiety, agitation, (hypo)mania, psychosis, depression, etc.--and it has a better EPS profile than the older neuroleptics.

Weight gain and metabolic stuff can become an issue. There's always the issue of tardive dyskinesia. Ideally, a doctor will give people on Seroquel and other tranquilizers an AIMS test at regular intervals. That doesn't actually happen very often, so my personal advice would be to keep your dosage as low as you can and keep an eye out for early signs of TD.

I only take it at night (100mg) so I won't have to push through the sleepiness. It really helps keep my hypomanias milder and makes them end sooner. I can also use it to cool off if I get too spun during the day. Lamictal keeps me from going too low after. I do like seroquel and intend to stay on it long term if I can.

I have gained some weight. I crave starchy foods and definitely have a hard time limiting how much of them I eat in a sitting. It would probably be easier if I were actively trying to take care of my body, which I'm not.

I know a person that loves Setoquel so much that he'll eat a whole bottle in a matter of days.
