Do you guys feel "off" for awhile after more severe episodes? I always do. They change me. It gets old. I don't know how to explain it. Like your better in terms of mania/depression but it causes long lasting emotional damage or something.

Wounds heal but the scars, they remain the same.

Absolutely. It takes me awhile to get back on my feet after a severe episode. Best wishes.

Takes me time to get my feel under me. But looking back it really seems to average me about 2 weeks.

Every episode takes a part of me away.

Bipolar sucks, alot.

It takes a while. Some of the mistakes I've made during mania will follow me a long time. The paranoia takes a while to go away completely. I'll come out of it, but I'm dealing with the anxiety from the aftermath of it all for sometimes a few months. If I have a milder episode, I'll "bounce back" in a few weeks. During the severe episodes though, it's a process. Certain things related to the aftermath of mania still stick with me, but time has helped repair me by giving me the ability to not react to it the way that I did previously.

Give yourself time. I hope this isn't cliche, but be kind to yourself. I go through periods of time where I hang my head in shame, but I've been practicing reminding myself not to beat myself up. You're not alone. I've been there before, just as many here have experienced.

For me an episode tends to set off a chain of episodes. Periods of calm then periods of crazy. It lasts a few years then peters out. Shows up again another time.

I feel off even after not-so-severe episodes, or even after a panic attack. Sort of like an emotional-cognitive-physical hangover, like I'm just sort of foggy and numb.

Yes definitely. It takes quite a while to feel settled and like I know what's going on again

I feel like Christina described, each episode takes a part of me.
I don't feel like there's a lot of me left after 40 yrs of this.

Please give yourself time to see what you can recover.
